Kimm and LaPlant named to first team for second straight season, Hamann garners second team honors
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – No. 15 St. Cloud State Volleyball had three student-athletes earn all-conference honors as the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) announced its end of season awards on Thursday. Senior outside hitter Shelby Kimm (North Liberty, Iowa) and junior setter Braya LaPlant (Grand Rapids, Minn.) were named to the first team, while junior libero Laurin Hamann (Manitowoc, Wis.) earned second team honors. Kimm and LaPlant are repeat first team selections while Hamann is a first-time honoree.
Kimm and LaPlant are the fifth and sixth SCSU players to earn back-to-back First Team All-NSIC honors and it is the seventh season in a row that the Huskies have had three or more all-conference selections and the 14th time ever (8th time in NSIC). It is also the seventh consecutive season that SCSU has had at least two first team selections.
Kimm was named to the first team for the second straight season and ranks among the top 13 of NSIC players in conference matches in digs/set, kills/set and points/set. She currently ranks No. 8 in digs/set (3.69), No. 10 in kills/set (3.28) and No. 13 in points/set (3.60). Earlier this season, Kimm became the 13th player to surpass 1,000 career digs, the 14th player to surpass 1,000 career kill and just the sixth player to join 1,000 kills / 1,000 digs club. She ranks No. 9 on SCSU's all-time digs list and No. 9 on the double-doubles list.
LaPlant was selected to the first time for the second consecutive season after ranking No. 2 among NSIC setters in assists/set (11.25) during conference play and recorded four assist/dig double-doubles. Earlier this season, she became the 10th player in program history to surpass 2,000 career assists and currently ranks No. 9 on the all-time assists list. LaPlant earned back-to-back NSIC Setter of the Week awards (Oct. 5 | Oct. 12) for her third and fourth career weekly awards. She was the only Husky to earn a weekly award from the conference for the second straight season.
Hamann earned her first career all-conference honors after ranking among the conference's best in digs and aces. Among NSIC players in conference play, she ranks No. 2 in aces/set (0.51) and No. 6 in digs/set (4.66). Earlier this season Hamann became the 14th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career digs.
The Huskies close out the regular season schedule this weekend against Sioux Falls (10-16, 6-12 NSIC) and No. 13 Southwest Minnesota State (20-5, 14-4 NSIC). Friday's "Family Day" match is scheduled for 6 p.m., while Saturday's Senior Day match is slated for 2 p.m. Links to each coverage option will be available on the St. Cloud State Volleyball match day central and schedule page.
