Huskies ranked nationally for first time since 2018
Indianapolis, IN. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (23-5, 20-2 NSIC) were ranked as the No. 21 team in Division II and the No. 5 team in the second Central Region Ranking Wednesday afternoon. This is the first time since 2018-19 where the Huskies were nationally ranked.
While St. Cloud State has been receiving votes in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on multiple occasions throughout the year, they broke through and entered the top 25 to come in at No. 21. The last time SCSU was ranked was November 27, 2018, which was also the last time that St. Cloud State reached the NCAA Tournament.
In the Central Region ranking, the Huskies came in as No. 5. For the second regional rankings, ten teams are ranked as under consideration as opposed to listed alphabetically like the first poll was.
St. Cloud State is part of the Central Region which is composed of three conferences, the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), Great American Conference (GAC), and Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA). The top eight teams in the region advance to the NCAA Regional Tournament on March 13-17 at the site of the top seed in the region. Automatic bids are granted to the winners of the NSIC, GAC and MIAA postseason tournaments, with the remaining five spots being awarded on an at-large basis.
The NCAA Men's Basketball Selection Show will air on www.NCAA.com on Sunday, March 8 (time TBD). The NCAA Elite Eight and Final Four will take place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania while the National Championship will be played in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Regional rankings will be released once more next Wednesday prior to the selection show on March 8. The ranking will also have the teams ranked.
