Newell's Stats - Career and Season
2018-19: The NCHC scoring champion and NCHC Forward of the Year for 2018-19, Newell is the Huskies' leading scorer this winter with 21 goals and 47 points in 39 games played. He currently owns a +35 ranking with six game winners and six power play goals this season. Newell has posted 16 multi-point games for the Huskies this season and was named the NCHC Player of the Month for February 2019. A two-time NCHC Player of the Week selection in 2018-19, Newell has named to this year's All-NCHC First Team and also earned All-NCHC Academic team honors for the fourth time in 2018-19. In four seasons with the Huskies, Newell has scored 38 goals, 82 assists and 120 points. He currently ranks 19th in the team records for career points scored and 10th for career assists in 145 career games played. He was named the 2019 NCHC Sportsmanship Award recipient and was selected to the 2019 NCHC Frozen Faceoff All-Tournament Team.
2017-18: A 2018 All-NCHC Academic Award winner...played in 33 games for the Huskies...six goals and 21 assists...added one PPG, one SHG, one ENG and one GWG for SCSU in 2017-18...six multi-point games...posted 2g/1a in win at Miami on Feb. 10, 2018...had four assists in weekend series at WMU on Feb. 16-17, 2018...also had two assists apiece in wins over UMD an Minnesota...had GWG vs. UMD on Jan. 27, 2018...+11...53 shots.
2016-17: A 2017 All-NCHC Academic Award winner...led the Huskies with 20 assists in 2016-17...also posted four goals and 24 points...59 shots on goal and one power play marker as a sophomore...played in all 36 games for SCSU...had six multi-point games in 2016-17, including three helpers vs. Minnesota on Oct. 22, 2016...also had a playmaker with three assists vs. UCONN on Dec. 30, 2016.
2015-16: A 2016 All-NCHC Academic Award winner...posted seven goals, 15 assists and 22 points during his first year at SCSU...added two game winners and was +20 on the plus/minus...scored first two college goals in a win over Miami on Oct. 30, 2015...first assist came against UND on Nov. 20, 2015...played in 37 games...had GWGs against Miami on Oct. 30 and Western Michigan on March 11...had two goals and one assist in win over WMU on Jan. 22, 2016...also had two assists apiece against Denver (Dec. 11, 2015) and Bemidji State (Jan. 31, 2016).
Before SCSU: A 2014 graduate of Ogburn Online School...played junior hockey with the Indiana Ice (USHL) in 2013-14 and with the Penticton Vees of the BCHL in 2014-15...also played for the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the NAHL in 2012-13...tallied 22 goals, 45 assists during career with Indiana and posted 19 goals and 42 assists during 2014-15 season at Penticton...helped Indiana win Clark Cup and helped Penticton win the Fred Page Cup...received Most Sportsmanlike Award at the RBC Cup...economics major at SCSU.
