Nick Oliver begins his fourth season on staff at St. Cloud State, first joining head coach Larson for his first season with the Huskies in 2018-19. A former team captain and forward for the Huskies, Oliver has helped continue St. Cloud State’s ascension as a program in his first three seasons. He most recently served as an assistant coach for the Sioux Falls Stampede of the USHL from 2015-18.
In 2018-19, Oliver helped led the Huskies to a Spencer Penrose NCHC regular season championship and the top seed in the 2019 NCAA Division I Tournament. Oliver then helped lead St. Cloud State to its second NCAA Frozen Four appearance and its first-ever NCAA National Championship Game appearance, as the Huskies finished as the runner-up in Pittsburgh.
Prior to St. Cloud State, Oliver went on to join Scott Owen’s coaching staff with the Sioux Falls Stampede and served with that squad as an assistant coach from 2015-18.
Oliver played in 145 career games during his career at SCSU. He served as a team captain for the Huskies in 2014-15 and earned Academic All-Conference notice three times during his collegiate career. He was a 2009 NHL draft pick of the Nashville Predators.
A 2015 graduate of St. Cloud State, Oliver was named the NCHC’s Sportsmanship Award recipient in 2015. In his career, Oliver scored seven goals and 12 assists at St. Cloud State. He helped lead the Huskies to a first-place finish in the 2012-13 WCHA regular season along with an NCAA Division I Midwest Region title in 2013 and a trip to the 2013 NCAA Division I Frozen Four. As a junior, Oliver was part of the SCSU squad that captured the inaugural NCHC regular season championship in 2013-14.
A graduate of Roseau High School, Oliver was part of teams at SCSU that gained three consecutive bids to the NCAA Division I tournament in 2013, 2014 and 2015. He also played with the Fargo Force in the USHL from 2008-11.
