Badgers Roll Over Huskies, 6-0

Madison, Wis. - The St. Cloud State women's hockey team traveled to Wisconsin to take on the Badgers in a WCHA series. The Badgers rolled over the Huskies 6-0 in game one of the two game series Friday.
Wisconsin's Alev Kelter took the Badgers to an early 1-0 lead over the Huskies with a power-play goal at the 5:58 mark of the first period. Assists were charted to Erika Sowchuk and Blayre Turnbull. St. Cloud State's Julie Friend let another one past her with only 12 seconds left in the first period.
Wisconsin went one-for-two on power-play advantages in the first period and took a 2-0 lead going into the first intermission.
In the second period the Huskies came out firing shots and playing great defense. Scoring did not come until the 19:21 mark of the second period with Brianna Decker scoring an unassisted goal, improving Wisconsin's lead to 3-0.
The third period was largely controlled by the Badgers. Wisconsin came out and scored at the 2:31 mark of the third period taking a 4-0 lead over the Huskies followed by two more goals midway through the third advancing their lead to six.
Sophomore Julie Friend was in the net for the Huskies totaling 51:11 minutes of play and recorded 38 saves, while freshman Katie Fitzgerald recorded 8:49 minutes of play with five saves. Friend drops her record to 2-5-1on the season with the loss.
The Badgers outshot the Huskies 49-19 in the game. St. Cloud State went zero-for-two on power-play advantages, while Wisconsin went one-for-four.
St. Cloud State (4-10-1, 2-9-0 WCHA) and the Wisconsin Badgers (9-4-2, 5-4-2 WCHA) will be back for game two of the series in LaBahn Arena Saturday, November 24. The puck drop is slated for 2:07 p.m.
