Brodt Earns First Collegiate Goal In Win Over Bemidji State

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team is back in action Friday after a month long break for the holidays hosting the Bemidji State University Beavers. The Huskies defeated the Beavers in a 4-2 battle in their first WCHA series of 2013.
The game started late just like the scoring as the first goal did not come until the 13:15 mark of the second period. SCSU's Michelle Burke with her first of the season scored the goal. Skye Kelly and Sydney Burghardt assisted Burke Bemidji State outshot the Huskies 12-to-6 in the second period.
The third period came with a great deal of action from both sides with a total of five goals. BSU came out strong in the third period taking a 2-1 lead just 4:43 into the period. Both goals were scored within 31 seconds of each other and that was the last action seen by the Beavers.
The Huskies did not let the two goals distract them as freshman Hanna Brodt tied the game up with her first collegiate goal at the 12:03 mark of the third period. Assists were charted to Audrey Hanmer and Sydney Burghardt.
SCSU kept shooting the puck and took a 3-2 lead at the 12:52 mark with a power-play goal by Molli Mott. Seniors Haylea Schmid and Alex Nelson assisted on the goal. The Huskies know it is not over till the final horn so at the 19:38 mark Julia Gilbert scored on an empty net for a 4-2 victory. Mott and Cari Coen fed Gilbert with the puck for the empty netter.
Freshman Julie Friend was in the net for the Huskies recording her first win in 2013 with 29 saves, while BSU's Abby Ryplanski totaled 24 saves. Friend improves her record to 4-6-1 on the season.
St. Cloud State (8-12-1, 4-11-0 WCHA) and Bemidji State (3-14-2, 2-12-1 WCHA) will return to action for game two of the WCHA series on Saturday, January 5. Game is slated to start at 2:07 p.m. in the National Hockey & Event Center.
Tickets for all home games can be purchased at the gate the day of the event or you can purchase in advance at www.scsutickets.com. Attention SCSU students! All SCSU students with a valid St. Cloud State student ID card will be admitted FREE to all regular season Husky home women's hockey games in 2013. Just show your ID card at the gate and get in free...it is that easy!
TICKET SPECIAL:
This weekend for the Women's hockey Bemidji State series all Men's Hockey season ticket holders will be admitted free to both of the women's games. Faculty and Staff will also be admitted free to both games as well as their guest.
The Bemidji State series has been designated, as Youth Day. Kids in grades 2-12 will be admitted free to the series.
All other seats are only $1!!
