Huskies to Host Cross Country Meet on Oct. 4

The St. Cloud State University men's and women's cross country teams will host Concordia-St. Paul in a dual meet at the Wapicada Golf Course in Sauk Rapids, Minn. on Friday, Oct. 4.
The start time is schedule for 5 p.m. Â Admission for this event is free and open to the public. Â Former SCSU cross country coach and track and field coach Bob Waxlax is scheduled to be the honorary starter for the meet at Wapicada.
This marks the first time in over 20 seasons that SCSU has hosted a cross country event. Â The Huskies' will be led in the women's race by Kassie Vaness and Samantha Sunstrom, while the men's team has been paced this season by Tom Mountain, Chris Caron and Johnathan Hess.
The meet will also honor 50 years of cross country at St. Cloud State University, which began with the first men's team in 1964. Â The team was led by Coach Bob Tracy and featured athletes Ken Mitchell, Van Nelson and Chuck Spoden.
Special honors will also be given at the meet to the 1967 SCSU men's cross country team, which placed second at the NAIA National meet that season, and the 1983 SCSU men's cross country team that placed second at the NCAA Division II meet that season.
