SCSU Volleyball Falls to #8 Southwest Minnesota State, 0-3

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University volleyball team hosted #8 Southwest Minnesota State University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up this evening in Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies were defeated handily in set one, 15-25 before putting the pressure on. Sets two and three were a battle to 25. The Huskies ultimately fell 23-25 in both sets two and three, falling to SMSU in straight sets.Â
St. Cloud State drops to 12-11 overall on the season, and 6-9 in conference play. Number eight ranked Southwest Minnesota State improves to 18-5 on the year and 13-2 in the NSIC.Â
St. Cloud State's middle blockers made a big impact in tonight's match.
Senior Ellie Dietzen (Black Creek, Wis.) led all players for the Huskies. Dietzen posted 11 kills and a .563 attack percentage. Sophomore Kellan Flynn (Tomahawk, Wis.) was right behind, finishing with 10 kills and .471 attack percentage.Â
Erin Ohlemann (Golden Valley) finished with 25 assists.Â
Brianne Stamer (Hutchinson) had a team-high 10 digs.Â
SMSU's Abby Thissen, the NSIC's 7th top leader in kills, led all players with 20 kills in the match.Â
St. Cloud State will return to action tomorrow (Nov. 2) afternoon as they host the University of Sioux Falls at 4 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall. The Cougars of USF Â are coming off a three-set loss to Minnesota Duluth. They enter tomorrow's match-up with a 15-10 overall record, and are tied with St. Cloud State in conference action at 6-9.
