#7/8 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey On the Road to Colorado

The #7/8 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (18-11-1, 15-6-1 WCHA) will travel to Colorado College for a pair of games on Feb. 22-23. The games will be played at the World Arena (7,380 cap./200x100) in Colorado Springs, Colo. The game on Feb. 22 will begin at 8:37 p.m. (CT) and the game on Feb. 23 will begin at 8:07 p.m. (CT).

March 2 will be a special night for Husky hockey fans. For starters, the Huskies will be saluting its 2012-13 senior class as these players skate at the NHEC for the final time in regular season play. SCSU HOCKEY NEWS and NOTES:
FIRST PLACE HUSKIES: SCSU enjoyed a bye week on Feb. 15-16. The last time out, SCSU lost a 4-2 decision vs. UM on Feb. 8 at the NHEC, and the Huskies rallied on Feb. 9 with a 4-3 victory. Drew LeBlanc scored two goals in the series, including the game winner on Feb. 9. Joey Holka, Nic Dowd and Jonny Brodzinski also had goals in the victory for the Huskies as Ryan Faragher was the goalie of record in both games with a weekend save total of 74. The split llowed the Huskies to maintain their hold on first place in the WCHA with a 15-6-1 league record (31 points). This is already the most league points amassed by the Huskies in a season since 2009-10, when the Huskies placed third in league play with 35 points. Overall, the Huskies own an 18-11-1 record.
HONORS CANDIDATE: SCSU Hobey Baker candidate Drew LeBlanc continues to provide offensive input into the Huskies' winning equation in 2012-13. He added two goals in the weekend series against UM. As a Husky, LeBlanc has played in 159 games and is drawing close to the team record of 161 career games played by Ryan Lasch from 2006-10. LeBlanc has posted 39 goals, 98 assists and 137 points during his run at SCSU. He ranks fifth in the team records for career assists and 8th for career points. For a season, LeBlanc becomes just the 11th player in team history to hit the 30-assist plateau in a season. Of note, the SCSU team record for assists in a season is owned by Mark Hartigan (2001-02) and Brandon Sampair (2000-01) with 38 apiece.
WISE GUYS: The Huskies hit a new team-high by having 10 players selected as WCHA Sc holar-Athletes for 2013. Hobey Baker candidate Drew LeBlanc became just the fifth player in league history to earn Scholar-Athlete honors for the fourth time. The list of Huskies named to the Scholar-Athlete list this season includes: Brooks Bertsch, Nic Dowd, Ryan Faragher, Kevin Gravel, Joey Holka, Nick Jensen, Drew LeBlanc, David Morley, Nick Oliver and Jospeh Phillippi.
GOAL LEADER: SCSU freshman Jonny Brodzinski scored his team-leading 14th goal of the season on Feb. 9 against Minnesota.
CLASS ACT: SCSU senior Ben Hanowski has been selected as one of the top 10 finalists for the 2013 Senior CLASS Award. The sweaters reflect on the style of the SCSU jersey worn in the 1930s and 1940s. The jerseys will be worn for one game only and fans will have an opportunity during the game to bid on the jerseys in a silent auction. Proceeds from the jersey auction will go toward the NHEC Locker Rook Campaign.
DEFENSE POWER: SCSU defender Nick Jensen charted his 20th assist of the year on Feb. 9. In his sterling career at SCSU, Jensen now has 14 goals and 64 assists for a total of 78 points. In the team's career scoring charts, Jensen moves ahead of Husky legend Bret Hedican who had 77 points during his career. Jensen also moved into second place in the SCSU records for assists by a defenseman with 64. He moves past Taj Melson, who had 63 assists from 1992-96. The team's all-time leader for assists by a defenseman is Kelly Hultgren with 79 from 1991-95. He is a resident of nearby Rogers, Minn. - one of 14 Minnesota residents on the SCSU roster in 2012-13.
