SCSU's Brooks Bertsch Named NCAA Elite 89 Award Winner

St. Cloud State University sophomore forward Brooks Bertsch, a resident of Dubuque, Iowa, has been named the NCAA Elite 89 award winner for the 2013 NCAA Division I men's hockey Frozen Four championship.
The Elite 89, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
The Elite 89 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA championships.
Bertsch is an operations management major at St. Cloud State and has posted two goals and seven assists for the Huskies in 2012-13. At the recent NCAA Midwest Regional in Toledo, Ohio, Bertsch notched three assists in the Huskies' wins over Notre Dame and Miami.
Bertsch was recognized for his academic achievements in a Frozen Four field that includes SCSU, UMass Lowell, Quinnipiac and Yale.
SCSU will open play in the 2013 Frozen Four with a 7 p.m. (CT) game against Quinnipiac at the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.
He is the son of Jeff and Diane Bertsch of Dubuque, Iowa. He is a 2008 graduate of Wahlert H.S.
