Huskies Earn Weekend Sweep with 93-72 Win Over MSU Moorhead

St. Cloud, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team hosted Minnesota State University Moorhead in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) action Saturday evening in Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies topped the Dragons of MSU Moorhead 93-72 in final scoring.
With the win the Huskies improve to 12-6 overall and 8-6 in the NSIC. St. Cloud State is now 9-1 on their home court this season. Minnesota State Moorhead falls to 10-8 overall and 6-8 in conference action.
The Huskies got off to an impressive start, taking a quick 18-3 lead just five minutes into play aided by 11 points from senior guard Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.). The Dragons were able to make a comeback late in the half, tying the score at 26 all with just over four minutes left in the half. St. Cloud State entered the half with a six point advantage (37-31) after shooting 46.4% to the Dragon's 39.3%.
The Huskies took over in the final twenty minutes, extending their lead to as much as 22 with 6:17 to go in the second half.
Rachael Moen (Savage) led the way with a career-high 23 points on nine of 12 shooting. Moen dished out a team-high five assists and knocked down four of five shots from three-point range.
Sam Price finished with 21 points after going seven of 14 from the field and hitting all five free throw attempts. Price leads the NSIC in free throw average shooting 94.7% this season.
Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) recorded her eleventh double-double of the season with a 10 point, 11 rebound performance.
The Huskies shot 56.5% from the field and 52.4% from beyond the arc (11-21). They forced the Dragons into 17 turnovers, resulting in 18 St. Cloud State points.
Megan Strese led MSU Moorhead with 21 points and 13 rebounds.
The Huskies will return to action next weekend as they host another pair of NSIC games on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. St. Cloud State will take on #12 Wayne State College on Friday and match-up against Augustana College on Saturday.
