Women's Basketball to Face #9 Wayne State and Augustana in Weekend Home Games

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team will host two crucial games this weekend as the Huskies match up against #9 Wayne State College and Augustana College for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-ups on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. This will mark the end to the Huskies four game home stand.
St. Cloud State holds a 9-1 record on their home court this season. The Huskies enter the weekend with a 10-6 overall mark and are 6-6 in the NSIC. They will take on the Wayne State Wildcats (19-2 overall, 12-2 NSIC) on Friday at 6 p.m. Wayne State sits on top of the NSIC overall standings. Saturday the Huskies will tip off at 4 p.m. against the Vikings of Augustana College (11-7 overall, 7-7 NSIC) in Halenbeck Hall.Â
Fans can follow the Huskies live on-line and on the air all weekend. KYES Radio 1180 AM will carry the games with JW Cox calling the action. NSIC Women's Basketball Standings
Saturday, Feb. 1 will serve as Alumni Day for St. Cloud State women's basketball. The program will be recognizing the teams from 1973 to 1993 who played under Head Coach Gladys Ziemer. Alumni Day will kick off with a luncheon at 12:30 followed by an Alumni Game at 2 p.m. Former players will be recognized during halftime of the women's game vs. Augutana College with a reception to follow.
Feb. 1 also marks National Girls and Women in Sports Day. This event is free to all girls and boys, age 14 and under. It will be held in the Halenbeck Hall North Balcony from 2:15 to 3:45. The first 175 to sign in on Feb. 1 will receive a free cinch bag. All who complete the activities will receive a bracelet courtesy of CentraCare Heatlh Foundation - BLEND. In addition, everyone who finishes will be eligible for several great prizes. All participants and their families are invited to attend either the St. Cloud State women's hockey game against Ohio State University at 3:07 p.m. or the women's basketball game at 4 p.m. after the event.
