Women's Basketball Falls to #9 Wayne State, 67-75

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team took the court at Halenbeck Hall this evening against #9 Wayne State College in a 6 p.m. Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) match-up. Both teams battled, resulting in seven tied scores and eight lead changes. The Wildcats held on to a second half lead to defeat the Huskies 75-67 in final scoring.

The Huskies had the lead for the majority of the first half until the 47-second mark when Wayne State's Ashton Yossi hit a three-pointer to give the Wildcats a two-point advantage heading into the half (35-33).
Just thirty seconds into the second half, Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) knocked down a shot from beyond the arc to give the Huskies a one-point lead. The Wildcats regained the lead at the 16:30 mark and kept it for the remainder of the game. Wayne State's largest lead came at the 8:04 mark when they led by ten.
Four St. Cloud State players scored in double-figures this evening. Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) went five of nine from the field to finish with 11 points. Petermann grabbed six rebounds. Freshman guard Chelsea Nooker (Green Bay) made all six free throw attempts and two shots from the field to finish with 11 points. Rachael Moen (Savage) finished with 11 points, dished out four assists and grabbed three steals. Price added ten points for the Huskies.
Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) had a team-high ten rebounds and four steals.
The Huskies outrebounded Wayne State 39 to 30, but committed an uncharacteristic 22 turnovers.
St. Cloud State shot 40% from the field to the Wildcats' 43%.
Ashton Yossi led Wayne State with 21 points after knocking down five shots from beyond the arc.
The Huskies will return to action tomorrow evening as they host Augustana College in a 4 p.m. match-up in Halenbeck Hall. The Vikings enter tomorrow's contest with an 11-8 overall record and a 7-8 mark in the NSIC. Augustana is coming off a 70-84 loss to Minnesota Duluth (Jan. 31).
