#9 St. Cloud State men's hockey falls 5-1 to #2 Union

Schenectady, N.Y. - The #9 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (1-2-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) dropped a 5-1 decision against #2 Union College (5-0-0, 0-0-0 ECAC) on Friday, Oct. 24 at the Frank L. Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y.
The Huskies trailed early in the contest after three goals in the first nine minutes of play by Union. The Dutchmen started the scoring with a power play marker at 1:51 of the first period by Michael Pontarelli. UC added its second goal at 4:07 of the first by Sebastien Gingras and then completed the first period attack with a goal by Mark Bennett at 8:54.
In the second period, Union pushed it to 4-0 with a goal by Sam Coatta at 6:52, and the Dutchmen completed their scoring at 16:55 of the third period with another power play goal by Max Novak.
The Huskies ended the game on a high note with a goal by sophomore defender Ben Storm at 19:55 of the third period. The goal was assisted by senior forward Garrett Milan and it also prevented a shutout for UC netminder Colin Stevens, who finished his night with 35 saves. Storm's goal was the first of his collegiate career and his first of the 2014-15 season.
In the contest, SCSU outshot the Dutchmen 36-27. Charlie Lindgren was the goalie of record in the contest with six saves and three goals allowed in 8:54 minutes of play. Rasmus Reijola finished the game for SCSU with two goals allowed and 16 saves to his credit. On the power play, SCSU was 0-4 and UC was 2-8.
SCSU and Union will finish their two-game series with a 6 p.m. (CT) start on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Messa Rink in Schenectady, N.Y. Fans can listen to the game live with Dan Terhaar on the call on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com).
