St. Cloud State falls 3-2 at #12 Omaha on Dec. 12

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (6-8-1, 2-4-1 NCHC) suffered a tough 3-2 loss at #12 University of Nebraska Omaha (9-4-2, 5-3-1 NCHC) on Friday, Dec. 12.
SCSU and Omaha will complete its weekend series on Saturday, Dec. 13 with an 8:07 p.m. game at the CenturyLink Center in downtown Omaha, Neb.
Omaha took an early 1-0 lead in the first period with a power play goal by Ian Brady at 8:49, which included assists from Jake Guentzel and Luc Snuggerud. The Huskies charged back to tie the game at 1-1 with an even strength marker by Blake Winiecki at 9:09 of the first period. Joe Rehkmamp and Andrew Prochno added assists on the play for the Huskies. The goal was Winiecki's second of the season and it marked Rehkamp's third assist of the year and Prochno's seventh assist of the year.
SCSU gained a 2-1 lead at 10:14 of the first period with a power play goal by Jonny Brodzinski. Joey Benik and Patrick Russell each had assists on the play for SCSU. The goal was Brodzinski's team-leading ninth of the season and it marked his 52nd career goal at SCSU. Both Brodzinski and Benik pace the team in 2014-15 with 14 points apiece.
In the second period, Omaha tied the contest with a goal by Justin Parizek at 15:03. Brady and Jake Randolph both carded assists on the play that moved the score to 2-2.
In the third period, Omaha's Austin Ortega scored a power play goal at 6:17 of the period with assists from Guentzel and Brady. The goal provided Omaha with a 3-2 lead in the contest and proved to be the game winner.
In the contest, SCSU outshot the Mavericks 49-23, as the Huskies opened the contest by outshooting Omaha 21-7 in the first period. On the power play, SCSU was 1-4 and Omaha was 2-3. Ryan Massa made 47 saves in the game for Omaha and gained the win, while Charlie Lindgren had 20 saves in the game for the Huskies.
