
#6 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey to Host #16 Minnesota Duluth

The #6 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (15-6-5, 9-4-3-0 NCHC) will return to action in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference on Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 with a pair of home games against #16 University of Minnesota Duluth (13-9-4, 8-6-2-2 NCHC).  The games will be played at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (5,371 cap./200x100).  The Huskies-Bulldogs game on Friday, Feb. 14 will begin at 7:37 p.m. and the game on Saturday, Feb. 15 will begin at 707 p.m.  Great tickets are available for both of these games and they can be purchased by visiting www.scsutickets.com or by calling 1-877-SCSUTIX.

GUTS, GOALS AND GLORY: Former Husky Marty Mjelleli (2004-08) is the author of a new book dedicated to the history of SCSU hockey.  Mjelleli will be at the Brooks Center on Feb. 14-15 to sign copies of his new book "St. Cloud State Hockey - Guts, Goals and Glory."  Fans can purchase the book at the games this weekend and you can also purchase the book through Amazon.com.  The book will be available for purchase next week at the Husky Bookstore on the SCSU campus and also at the Husky Hut pro shop at the Brooks Center.  Several former Huskies will also appear with Mjelleli in the concourse on Saturday, Feb. 15 for the book signing.
RANK AND FILE:  The Huskies earned a number six ranking in this week's USA TODAY/USA Hockey poll and a #6 ranking in the USCHO.com poll this week.  In the Pairwise rankings at 10 a.m. on Feb. 12, the Huskies were ranked 6th.  SCSU was the top ranked team from the NCHC in the Pairwise on Feb 12.  UMD was ranked #13 in the PWR on Feb. 12.
THE LAST TIME OUT: The Huskies posted a 2-2 tie on Feb. 7 and a 4-2 win on Feb. 8 in games played at the Brooks Center against Denver.  Nic Dowd and Ethan Prow had goals in the 2-2 tie, which saw the Huskies lose by a 3-2 tally in the post-game shootout.  On Feb. 8, Dowd charted two goals and one assist and Prow marked the game winner in the 4-2 win.  SCSU's other goal was posted by David Morley.  Charlie Lindgren earned the win for the Huskies with 28 saves in the game.Â

NCHC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: The NCHC awarded Offensive Player of the Week notice to Nic Dowd and Defensive Player of the Week honors to Ethan Prow for their efforts in the four-point weekend against Denver. The Huskies have earned NCHC weekly honors 12 times this season.
LOCAL TALENT:  Defender Ethan Prow brings a five-game point streak into the the series against UMD.  In action against Denver, Prow scored the game winner on Feb. 8 and also had a goal on Feb. 7.  In the last five games, Prow has notched two goals and four assists.  On the season, Prow has scored three goals and 12 assists - which already matches his season scoring totals from 2012-13.  A local resident, Prow is a graduate of nearby Sauk Rapids-Rice High School.
ROLLING ALONG:  On the topic of five-game point streaks, sophomore forward David Morley will bring a five-game scoring streak into the UMD series too.  Morley has scored seven points in his last five outings, which includes one goal and two assists in the weekend series against Denver.  Morley paces the Huskies this winter with 18 assists and ranks third in the NCHC (overall games played) with 0.69 assists per game this winter.  Morley also has eight goals in 2013-14 for a total of 26 points.
BIG WEEKEND:  SCSU captain Nic Dowd charged the Huskies with two goals and one assist in the win over DU on Feb. 8.  Dowd opened the weekend with a goal in the Huskies tie against the Pioneers on Feb. 7.  His four point weekend moved Dowd into first place on the Huskies' goal scoring list with 15 in 2013-14.  He is now tied for the team's point lead with 27 points along with sophomore forward Jonny Brodzinski.  Dowd now ranks 21st in the team records with 108 careers points (45 goals and 63 assists).  He moves ahead of Kelly Hultgren, who noted 107 points during his SCSU career from 1991-95.  DID YOU KNOW: SCSU is 10-0-3 when Nic Dowd scores a goal this season.
WINNING EFFORT:   Freshman netminder Charlie Lindgren charted 28 saves in the Huskies' 4-2 win over Denver on Feb. 8.  The victory was the second of the season for Lindgren and it was his first win since a 10-0 shutout at Alabama Huntsville on Nov. 15.Â
BACK ON THE BOARD:  Freshman forward Daniel Tedesco snapped a seven-game point scoring drought with his assist on David Morley's goal on Feb. 8.  On the season, Tedesco now has five assists and seven points for the Huskies.
 HUSKY NOTES AND NEWS:  SCSU improved to 4-3-5 in games played at home in 2013-14.  SCSU is 276-150-54 in games played at the Brooks Center since it opened in 1989.  Away from home this season, the Huskies own an 11-3-0 record....the Huskies have outscored their opponents 94-70 this season....SCSU ranks third in the nation with a 3.62 goals per game scoring average in 2013-14....SCSU ranks seventh among DI teams this season on the power play at 22.6 percent (24/106).  SCSU's winning percentage of .673 also ranks seventh in the nation...The Huskies are 6-1-3 this season in games which they have been outshot this season.Â
