St. Cloud State Wrestling Ranked Third in Nation
2/12/2014 2:59:00 PM | Wrestling
The St. Cloud State University wrestling team moved up a spot to number three in the latest NCAA DIvision II wrestling rankings released on Feb. 12 by the Division II Wrestling Coaches Association.
The Huskies currently own a 17-1 overall record and are a perfect 6-0 in the NSIC this winter. The only loss posted by the Huskies was a setback against #1 ranked Notre Dame College of Ohio at the 2014 NWCA Division II National Duals in early January. Since that time, SCSU has won 10 consecutive dual matches.
SCSU wrestlers ranked nationally include Andy Pokorny (2nd at 133-pounds), Matt Nelson (fifth at 141-pounds), Clint Poster (sixth at 157-pounds) and Austin Goergen (third at 285-pounds).
This week the Huskies will wrap up their regular season schedule with a match at Minnesota State, Mankato on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m., and on Saturday, Feb. 15, the Huskies will host #6 ranked Upper Iowa (14-1-1, 6-0 NSIC) at 2 p.m. in Halenbeck Hall.
The match against Upper Iowa will feature a salute to the SCSU seniors prior to the start of competition. This year's SCSU seniors include Jack Barnes, Chris Brassell, Trent Herold, Cullan Morrissey, Andy Pokorny and Zach Stewart.
The day will also be SCSU Wrestling Alumni Day. All former SCSU wrestlers are invited to be part of the ceremony during the match's intermission. A special 50th anniversary alumni salute will recognize the accomplishments of SCSU's teams from 1962-63 and 1963-64. Â
The match will also have an impact on the final NSIC standings, as both SCSU and Upper Iowa enter this week with perfect 6-0 records in NSIC competition. SCSU will complete its NSIC schedule on Feb. 15, while Upper Iowa will host Augustana College on Feb. 16 in Fayette, Iowa.
