Huskies Fall to Sioux Falls in First Round of NSIC Tournament, 68-75

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University women's basketball team took the court at Halenbeck Hall this evening for a first-round match-up in the 2014 Sanford Health Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) tournament.
The Huskies faced the Cougars from the University of Sioux Falls. St. Cloud State entered into the match-up as the NSIC North #4 seed, the Cougars coming in seeded at #5 in the South. The Huskies fell to the University of Sioux Falls 68-75 in final scoring, putting an end to their 2014 season.
The Huskies finish the year with a 16-11 overall mark. The University of Sioux Falls improves to 13-14 overall and will take on Wayne State on Saturday, March 1 in a second round tournament match-up.
Tonight's contest consisted of five tied scores and three lead changes. The score was all tied up at the half (38-38), but the Cougars took the lead for the entirety of the remaining 20 minutes. Sioux Falls had their largest lead of ten at the 13:16 mark.
With time expiring, Rachael Moen (Savage) scored eight consecutive points, but it wasn't enough. The Cougars' shooting was consistent throughout the entire contest, holding a 50% field goal percentage in both halves. The Huskies shot 43% in the first half and just 23.3% in the second.
Rachael Moen led all players with 23 points on the night (tying her career high). Moen went four of nine from beyond the arc and made five of six shots from the line. She dished out a team-high four assists.
Sam Price (Eau Claire, Wis.) finished with 16 points and Lexy Petermann (Fond du Lac, Wis.) added 13 on six of 11 shooting from the field.
Price knocked down her 186th three-point shot this evening, allowing her to finish her career in second place on the all-time three point field goal charts.
Jessica Benson (Grand Meadow) had a team-high nine rebounds.
Taylor Varsho led Sioux Falls with 15 points.
The remainder of the NSIC Sanford Health Tournament will take place in Sioux Falls, SD at the Pentagon.
