#4 SCSU Wrestling to Host SMSU, Augustana

The SCSU matches at home on Feb. 6 against Southwest Minnesota State and on Feb. 7 against Augustana have been designated as Youth Nights. All youth in grades K-12 will be admitted to these two NSIC matches for just $1. Tickets for these matches can be purchased at the gate on match night. Both matches on Feb. 6 and Feb. 7 will begin at 7 p.m. in the University's Halenbeck Hall.
The St. Cloud State University wrestling team improved to 15-1, 4-0 NSIC on the season with a pair of road wins last weekend. The Huskies opened on Jan. 31 with a convincing 49-0 win at Minot State and they completed the North Dakota trip with a big 39-6 win at Mary on Feb. 1.Â
The Huskies are currently ranked #4 in the latest NCAA Division II Coaches' Poll, which was released last week. Individually, SCSU's Andy Pokorny is ranked 2nd in the nation at 133-pounds and Matt Nelson is ranked #4 in the nation at 141-pounds. Clint Poster is ranked #5 in the poll at 157-pounds and Gabe Fogarty is ranked #7 in the nation at 165-ponds. At 285-pounds, SCSU's Austin Goergen is ranked #3 at the DII level this winter.
St. Cloud State has won three consecutive NCAA Division II regional crowns and the Huskies have finished as the runner-up at the last three consecutive NCAA DII Wrestling championships. The Huskies have also earned NSIC champion honors in 2012 and 2013. SCSU head coach Steve Costanzo is in his eighth season as head coach for the Huskies. His career record with the Huskies stands at 115-24. His career record as a collegiate coach over 15 seasons is 176-54-2.
SCSU will be led by team captains Clint Poster, Chris Brassell, Andy Pokorny and Josh Howk in 2013-14. The Huskies will return four All-Americans from 2012-13. This group includes sophomore Gabe Fogarty (165), sophomore Clint Poster (157), sophomore Matt Nelson (141) and senior Andy Pokorny (133).
Goergen leads the Huskies with 23 wins and 13 falls this season. Overall, Goergen owns a 23-4 record. Andy Pokorny improved to 10-0 on the season at 133-pounds with his pin against Mary on Feb. 1. Clint Poster continues to impress in 2013-14. He scored two wins over the weekend and now owns a 22-6 record for the Huskies in 2013-14. SCSU was the top ranked team from the NSIC the 2013-14 Division II preseason poll. Four-time All-American Shamus O'Grady will serve as one of SCSU's assistant coaches during the 2013-14 season along with veteran assistant coach Brady Wilson. The Huskies claimed first place finishes at the NWCA Division II National Duals in 2012 and 2013, and they placed third at the NWCA Duals in 2014. SCSU finished its 2012-13 season with a 21-0, 8-0 NSIC record.
