St. Cloud State topples Colorado College, 7-1

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (11-13-1, 6-8-1 NCHC) opened its weekend series in Colorado Springs, Colo. with a big 7-1 victory over host Colorado College (5-17-1, 1-12-1 NCHC) on Friday, Jan. 30.
The Huskies hit the ground running in the game with a goal by freshman forward Patrick Russell at 1:14 of the first period, which included assists from Ethan Prow and David Morley. SCSU added the eventual game winner at 13:03 of the first period with an even strength marker by Nick Oliver, which was assisted by Ben Storm and Tim Daly.
SCSU continued its assault in the first period with a power play goal by Kalle Kossila at 14:16. Joey Benik and Prow each had assists on the play that was Kossila's fourth goal of the year. This was the first of four power play goals by the Huskies in the contest.
To complete the first period scoring, rookie forward Blake Winiecki posted his third goal of the season at 14:41 of the first period with assists from Morley and Joe Rehkamp. On the night, Morley had two assists and moved his season total of nine in 2014-15.
In the second period, SCSU Hobey Baker Award candidate Jonny Brodzinski carded his first goal of the evening with a power play tally at 4:56 with helpers from Prow and Kossila. This was Prow's third assist of the night and his seventh of the season.
Benik notched his ninth goal of the season at 5:20 of the second with his power play marker that was assisted by Brodzinski and Kossila. To complete the run in the second period, Brodzinski capped the night's scoring his second goal of the game at 8:58 on the power play. Benik and Kossila each had assists on the play. The goal was Brodzinski's 15th of the season, his ninth power play goal of the year and his 99th career point (58g/41a).
Brodzinski moved back to the top of the charts in the nation with his nine power play goals this season. The assist was also Kossila's team-leading 15th assist of the year and his 92nd career point at SCSU.
SCSU just missed out on the shutout as the Tigers charted their lone goal at 11:03 of the third period on a 5x3 power play goal by Jacob Slavin.
On the night, SCSU outshout the Tigers 33-22 and that tally included a second period that saw the Huskies outshoot CC 14-2. On the power play, SCSU was 4-8 and CC was 1-6. In the nets, Charlie Lindgren charted his 10th victory of the season with 21 saves in the game. Tyler Marble was the goalie of record for CC with 18 saves in 45:18 minutes of play. Chase Perry relieved Marble played 14:42 of the game and gave up four goals before Marble came back to complete the game.
