Fitzgerald Named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week

St. Cloud, Minn. --- St. Cloud State senior goaltender, Katie Fitzgerald, has been awarded the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row after gaining her first shutout of the season and quarterbacking the Huskies to their third straight sweep on Nov. 28-29 against Lindenwood.

Fitzgerald backstopped St. Cloud State to a road sweep at Lindenwood, running the Huskies' winning streak to a program-record six-straight games. The senior from Des Plains, Ill. repeated as the WCHA's Defensive Player of the Week after posting a 1.00 goals-against average and stopping 45-of-47 shots on the weekend for a .957 save percentage. Fitzgerald stopped all 21 shots she faced Saturday, leading the Huskies to a 2-0 victory with her first shutout of the season (third career blanking). Sunday, she turned aside 24-of-26 shots as SCSU held on for the 3-2 win. Fitzgerald's efforts also helped the Huskies hold Lindenwood scoreless in three power-play opportunities.

The Huskies look to continue their winning way as they travel to Duluth Minnesota to face the Bulldogs on Dec. 4-5.
