St. Cloud State rolls to 4-1 victory at #6 Minnesota Duluth

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (13-14-1, 8-9-1 NCHC) added another victory against top nationally ranked opponent with a 4-1 win at #6 Minnesota Duluth (18-11-1, 10-7-1 NCHC) on Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Amsoil Arena in Duluth, Minn.
In the first period, both squads skated to a 0-0 tie as the Huskies outshot the Bulldogs 8-4 before the Huskies grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second period with an even strength goal by David Morley at 10:09 of the period.
Mika Ilvonen and Patrick Russell each had assists on the goal, which was Morley's 10th of the season. This also marked the sixth consecutive game that Morley has scored a point for the Huskies.
Morley added his second goal of the evening at 5:45 of the third period with an assist from Andrew Prochno. The goal provided the Huskies with a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs then broke the shutout at 7:17 of the third period with a power play goal by Austin Farley, which was assisted by Jared Thomas and Justin Crandall that made it 2-1.
The Huskies returned to the driver's seat at 12:29 of the third period with a power play marker by Patrick Russell. He was assisted on his ninth goal of the year by Jonny Brodzinski and Joey Benik. The score pushed SCSU's lead to 3-1 and it was SCSU's 27th power play goal of the season.
The game was iced in the closing minutes with an empty net goal by Joey Benik at 17:06 of the third. He was assisted on the play with a blocked shot by Kalle Kossila.
On the night, SCSU outshot the Bulldogs 28-2 as Charlie Lindgren made 21 saves in the win for the Huskies. Kasimir Kaskisuo had 24 saves for the Bulldogs and suffered the loss. On the advantage, SCSU was 1-6 and UMD was 1-2.
SCSU will return to action in the NCHC with a pair of home dates at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Feb. 20-21 against Nebraska Omaha. Tickets are available for both of these games and you can purchase them online at www.scsutickets.com or by calling 1-877-SCSUTIX.
