St. Cloud State Men's Hockey loses 3-2 match against #7/8 Denver

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (15-17-1, 10-12-1 NCHC) lost a 3-2 decision against #7/8 University of Denver on Friday, March 6 at the Herb Brook National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn.
The two teams will complete their weekend series at the HBNHC with a 7:07 p.m. match on Saturday, March 7. Tickets for this NCHC contest are available at the gate or you can purchase them online at www.scsutickets.com. The final set of 2014-15 St. Cloud State men's hockey trading cards will be given away at the game and the Huskies' seniors will also be saluted before the start of the game on March 7.
The nation's fourth best power play unit in Division I hockey lived up to its reputation as the Huskies notched both of their goals on the advantage. Jimmy Murray opened the game's scoring at 17:06 of the first period with a power play goal. This was Murray's fourth goal of the season and it was assisted by Mika Ilvonen and Ben Storm.
Denver tied the game at 9:30 of the second period with a goal by Ty Loney, which included assists from Matt Marcinew and Will Butcher. The Pioneers pushed their lead to 2-1 at 16:15 of the second period with a marker by Gabe Levin. Assists on the play were added by Emil Roming and Nolan Zajac.
In the third period, SCSU hit again on the power play with a goal by Kalle Kossila. The goal was Kossila's fifth of the season and it was assisted by Jonny Brodzinski and Ethan Prow.Â
The game was completed with the game winner by DU's Adam Plant at 5:54 of the third period. The solo assist on the play was credited to Trevor Moore.
On the night, SCSU outshot the Pioneers 42-24. Charlie Lindgren had 21 saves in the game for SCSU, while Denver's Tanner Jaillet earned the victory with 40 saves. On the power play, SCSU was 2-4 and Denver was 0-3.
