St. Cloud State Men's Hockey to host #7/8 Denver on March 6 & 7

The St. Cloud State University Huskies men's hockey team (15-16-1, 10-11-1-0 NCHC) will continue its 2014-15 season with a pair of conference games against the #7/8 University of Denver (19-11-2, 12-9-1 NCHC) on Mar. 6-7, at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (5,159 cap./200x100) in St. Cloud, Minn. The action will get underway on March 6 at 8:08 p.m. (CT), while the pucks drops on March 7 at 7:07 p.m. (CT). The game on March 6 will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network (DirecTV 221/Dish Network 158 or check your local cable listings). The game on March 7 will be televised live on the SCSU Sports Network on Charter cable channels 823/423 and on Comcast Cable in the Twin Cities on channel 999. Fans can listen to both games on KCML FM 99.9 (www.lite999.com) or KVSC FM 88.1 (www.kvsc.org).

MILESTONE NEAR: SCSU's next victory will be coach Bob Motzko's 200th career win with the Huskies. His current mark over 10 seasons is 199-152-41. He ranks second in the SCSU records for most career wins behind Craig Dahl, who had 338 wins from 1987-2005.
UND SETBACK: The Huskies suffered a 3-2 loss on Feb. 27 and a 3-2 loss on Feb. 28 at #1 North Dakota. Ben Storm posted his first power play goal as a Husky and Joey Benik also scored for the Huskies on Feb. 27. Junior blueliner Ethan Prow added SCSU¹s lone goal with a PPG on Feb. 28.

CLASS ACT:  The Huskies will recognize the 2014-15 seniors prior to the start of the game on March 7. This group of seniors includes Brooks Bertsch, Tim Daly, Garrett Milan, Nick Oliver, Joe Phillippi, Andrew Prochno, Jarrod Rabey and Joe Rehkamp.  This group of seniors has helped lead SCSU to two conference championships, an NCAA regional title in 2013 and a trip to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2013. Over the past four seasons, the Huskies have charted 79 victories with help from the 2014-15 senior class.
CLOSE TO 100:  Kalle Kossila needs three points to join SCSU¹s 100-point club. In 110 career games, Kossila has 32g/65a for the Huskies.
NICE ON THE ICE:Â Â SCSU is the 6th least penalized team in the nation with an average of 9.2 PIM per game in 2014-15.
NOTES AND NEWS: SCSU is 8-0-0 when David Morley scores a goal in 2014-15... Sauk Rapids native Ethan Prow has notched 11 points in his last eight games, which includes a four-game point streak headed into the weekend's games vs. Denver...Ben Storm scored his first power play goal as a Husky on Feb. 27 at UND...rookie blueliner Nathan Widman leads the Huskies on the plus/minus this season at +9, while freshman forward Blake Winiecki is +8...Jonny Brodzinski leads the Huskies this season with 131 shots on goal...SCSU seniors have won 79 games during the last four years. The top four-year group of players at SCSU was from 1999-03 when that senior class won 100 games during their careers as Huskies...David Morley has 4g/4a during his college career against Denver.

MAKING A POINT: Joey Benik ranks fourth in the league with 24 points (1.09 ppg) in 22 league games played this winter. He also ranks second in the league with 17 assists (p.77 apg)...the trio of Benik (16), Kalle Kossila (13) and Jonny Brodzinski (12) paced the NCHC with power play points respecitively in 22 league games...Brodzinski and Patrick Russell lead the NCHC with 7 ppgs this winter...Russell ranks second among league rookies with 20 points (0.91 ppg)...as a team, SCSU ranks second in the league on defense at 2.32 goals allowed per game and fourth on offense at 2.86 goals scored per game. DU leads the NCHC this week with an average of 3.36 goals per game. On defense, DU ranks sixth in the league at 2.82 goals allowed per game.
STRONG SCHEDULE: SCSU's strength of schedule this season is ranked #2 in the nation among DI programs. SCSU is 10-14-0 in games against nationally ranked teams. The Huskies have finished their regular season with eight consecutive games against teams currently ranked among the nation's top 10, including #1 UND, #6 Minnesota Duluth, #7/8 Denver and #8/7 Omaha.
UP NEXT: The Huskies will begin play in the first round of the NCHC playoffs next week. This best of three series runs from March 13-15 at a site to be determined by the results of this weekend's games in the conference. The winner of the playoff series advances to the 2015 NCHC Frozen Face-off tournament at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis on March 20-21.
