SCSU opens 2016-17 swim and dive season at North Dakota

The St. Cloud State University men's and women's swimmig and diving teams opened their 2016-17 seasons with a pair of dual meet setbacks against NCAA Division I rival the University of North Dakota on Friday, Oct. 7 in Grand Forks, N.D. Â The SCSU women's team lost a 189.5-108.5 match and the men's team lost their meet by a score of 189-106.

The Huskies will complete their weekend in the pool with the annual SCSU Swimming and Diving Alumni meet on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. Â The meet will be held at the Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Center and admission is free. Â Many of the program's standout alumni swimmers and divers will be back for this event to compete against this year's squad in a fun-filled competition. Â The day will be completed by an evening social at the Red Carpet in downtown St. Cloud, Minn.
At UND, the Huskies Robert Leigh won the men's 200 butterfly with a time of 1.55.65.  SCSU also received a first place performance in the women's 200 breaststroke by Brooke Calvin with a time of 2:24.68.
In the diving well, SCSU's Britin Thomsen charted a first place finish in the women's 1M diving event with a score of 239.60.  Freshman Ashley Wilson made a strong debut with a first place finish in the women's 200 IM with a winning time of 2:14.03.  Williams Nguyen also added a first place finish in the men's 200 IM event with a time of 2:02.88.
To wrap up the meets, the SCSU women's 400 free relay squad of Julie Schmitt, Bridget Opdahl, Kaitlin Heinen and Andrea Bryson scored a first place time of 3:37.58.  The SCSU men's 400 free relay team of Alex Lee, Josh McKeag, Zeke Erickson and Jordan Kinney also won a top place with a time of 3:19.87.
