Sam Sunstrom Competing at NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships This Weekend

SAINT LEO, Fla. – St. Cloud State senior cross country runner Sam Sunstrom is competing at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships this Saturday, Nov. 19, in Saint Leo, Fla. at the Abbey Course. The 6K race will start at approximately 8:45 a.m.

Sunstrom qualified for nationals by placing seventh overall at the NCAA Division II Central Regional in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Nov. 5.

Sunstrom's seventh place finish was the best of her career in the event. She had a time of 20:47.24 and was among the three top runners at the regional meet that was not part of one of the three automatic qualifying teams (University of Mary, Minnesota Duluth and Southwest Baptist) to earn a place in nationals for the first time in her career.

Sunstrom has placed in the top 10 in all six races this season.

A total of 248 female runners are competing this weekend in Florida. The top 40 will earn All-American distinction by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The overall top 15 finishers in the race will be NCAA Division II All-Americans.

Sunstrom was a Second Team All-American in track & field in the 10,000m last spring.
