Women's Basketball Set to Play Host to Upper Iowa and Winona This Weekend

St. Cloud, Minn.- The St. Cloud State Women's Basketball team is ready to open 2017 action at Halenbeck Hall with a pair of games against NSICÂ South foes Upper Iowa University and Winona State University on Jan. 13-14.Â
The Huskies (7-7, 5-5 NSIC) will first play host to the Upper Iowa Peacocks (2-12, 2-8 NSIC) on January 13. The Huskies and Peacocks have not met this season and only saw each other once last season in Fayette, Iowa.Â
St. Cloud State was able to rob the Peacocks of victory in that meeting when they handedly defeated Upper Iowa on their home turf, 72-60. Current seniors Chelsea Nooker and Betsy MacDonald both factored greatly for the Huskies in the match scoring 20 points each. Nooker completed a double-double, adding 10 rebounds to her 20 points. MacDonald led the Huskies in assists for the match with five.Â
Tip off is set for 6 p.m. on Friday night. It is also flannel night at Halenbeck Hall and fans are encouraged to break out their favorite plaids for the occasion.Â
St. Cloud State will then host the Warriors of Winona State (13-3, 8-2 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon. The Huskies were less successful in their lone meeting with the Warriors last season when they fell at the McCown Gymnasium by a score of 51-62 at the hands of the Warriors. Betsy MacDonald had 13 points in the game for the Huskies and added four assists to lead the team. Chelsea Nooker and Andrea Thomas both also broke double digit points with ten each. Nooker also picked up two steals on the match.Â
Tip off is set for 4 p.m. on Jan. 14. Fans are encouraged to wear red as it is a Red Out for the Huskies. Fans will also be able to enjoy $1 hot dogs, and players of all ages are invited to stick around and Hoop with the Huskies after the men's game at 6 p.m.Â
The Huskies will travel to Northern State and Minnesota State, Moorhead next weekend before returning home Jan. 27-28 to play host to Wayne State and Augustana. Tickets are available for these games and all Huskies home games and can be purchased at the gate or online at scsutickets.com.
