As much as the program tried they could not pull away from WSC with the largest lead being nine, 77-68, on a layup from sophomore Brindley Theisen at the 3:11 mark. Wayne State never gave up and again put the game at one possession on the first made free throw from Matt Thomas, 77-74. With 30 seconds remaining in the game, Heede-Andersen was fouled and calmly hit both his free throws to again get the lead back up to five, 81-76. A layup from Janssen, an SCSU turnover and a layup from Cornelius again got WSC to within a point, 81-80 with 18 seconds remaining. Heede-Andersen was again fouled and calmly knocked down his two attempts to again give the Huskies' a three-point cushion, 83-80, with just 10 second remaining. After missed layup from WSC, freshman Trevon Marshall knocked down a free throw to give the Huskies a four-point edge in what would be the final 84-80 score.
