The St. Cloud State men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened their 2017-18 seasons with a weekend trip to Green Bay, Wisc. for a pair of dual meets against the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. The SCSU women's team opened on Friday, Oct. 6 with a 136-106 loss and the men lost their opening dual by a score of 153-86.
The two squads squared off again on Saturday, Oct. 7 in Green Bay, Wisc. The SCSU women's team lost 129-95 and the men's team lost its second dual match-up against UWGB by a tally of 121-98. Ashley Wilson
In the meet on Friday, SCSU received top perfomances including first place finishes on the women's side by Lindsey Lewis in the 1000 freestyle (11:05.72), Andrea Bryson in the 200 freestyle (1:54.83) and 500 freestyle (5:13.99), Ashley Wilson in the 200 IM (2:13.32) and Brooke Calvin in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.10). On the men's side, Brian Burke place first in the 200 free at 1:45.74 and Triston Ferguson placed first in the 100 freestyle at 47:07. David Clossey added a first place finish in the 500 free at 4:59.97.
On the second day of racing at UWGB, St. Cloud State's 200 medley relay of Annie Hart, Calvin, Jordan Fuse and Alexis Burroughs placed first at 1:51.87. Wilson added a first place finish in the 400 IM at 4:42.95 and Bryson was first in the 100 freestyle at 53:34. In the 200 backstroke, Hart place first with a time of 2:10.57 and Calvin was first in the 200 breaststroke at 2:26.26.
In the men's races on Oct. 7, Robert Leight placed first in the 200 butterfly at 1:57.72, while Brian Burke placed first in the 100 freestyle at 47:07. Connor Deitrich was first int he 200 breaststroke at 2:15.09 and the men's 200 free relay of Burke, Leigh, Will Nguyen and Triston Ferguson placed first at 1:26.93.
