Men’s team beats Northern Michigan in top-15 showdown to open season

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Swim & Dive concluded its season-opening weekend of the 2026-27 season with a two-day meet against Northern Michigan at the Halenbeck Hall Aquatics Center in St. Cloud. The No. 14-ranked Huskies' men's team beat the No. 13-ranked Wildcats on both days, 158-84 and 155-58, while the women's team lost to the No. 14-ranked Wildcats 156.5-86-5 and 147.5-75.5.

On the first day of competition (Friday), the men's team posted nine first-place finishes with six in individual swimming events, two in relay events and one in a diving event. Three Huskies, freshman Youssef Amr (Cairo, Egypt), sophomore Harrison Regan (LaCrosse, Wis.) and senior Justin Rowles (Plymouth, Minn.) each posted a first-place and runner-up finish in their respective individual events while Amr also swam a leg on the 200-yard medley relay which finished first. The women posted three first-place finishes, including junior Emma Hoppman (Red Wing, Minn.), who finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and swam a leg on the 200-yard freestyle relay team which finished first.

On Saturday, the men recorded another nine event wins on the day, five in individual swimming events, two in relays and two in diving events. Senior Jimmy Nord (Chisago City, Minn.), Regan and senior Reid Tigges (Spencer, Iowa) each had two event wins on the day while Tigges also swam a leg on the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished first. The women posted three first-place finishes again on Saturday, with Hoppman repeating her performance with a first-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay.
