Women’s Basketball Travels To Minot State and the University of Mary This Weekend

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State women's basketball team (6-3, 3-2 NSIC), after a break for Christmas, is on the road to North Dakota this weekend to take on Minot State (4-6, 1-5 NSIC) on Saturday, Dec. 30, at 4 p.m. at the Minot State Dome and the University of Mary (5-7, 1-5 NSIC) on Sunday, Dec. 31, at 2 p.m. at the McDowell Activity Center

Scouting Minot State

Minot State fell to the University of Mary by a 70-45 score on the road on Dec. 19.
The program has lost five straight games since opening league play with a victory over the Marauders on Nov. 25.
The program has been led by Holly Johnson, who is averaging 14 points per game.
Johnson is also pulling down 6.3 rebounds per game.
Kristal Flowers sports an average of 11.4 points per game.
She is also shooting 57.5 percent from the field and is averaging 9.2 rebounds per game.
Madison Wald is getting 9.8 points per game and is second on the team with her 11 steals.
Kari Clements leads the team with her 28 assists.
Diondra Denton leads the team with her 12 steals
Minot State is averaging 64.8 points per game this season.
The team is shooting 38.7 percent from the field, 33 percent from three-point range and 76 percent from the line.
The Beavers are coached by Mark Graupe, who is in his first year with the program after spending the last four years at Dickinson State

Scouting University of Mary

The University of Mary defeated Minot State by a 70-45 score to end a four-game losing streak and picked up the first NSIC win of the season on Dec. 19.
The Marauders will play against Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, Dec. 30, before welcoming in St. Cloud State for the Sunday matinee.
Gabbie Bohl is the team leader with her average of 18.3 points per game.
Bohl is shooting 54 percent from the field and leads the team in blocked shots with 12.
She is third on the team with her average of 6.5 rebounds per game.
Cassie Askvig is getting 12.8 points per game and leads the team with her average of 8.7 rebounds a contest.
She is also second on the team with 29 assists and 11 blocks
Lauren Rotunda has an average of 11.4 points per game and leads the club with her 24 steals and 36 assists.
Dani Williams picks up 9.5 points per game.
The Marauders are averaging 67 points per game while shooting 41 percent from the field, 31.5 percent from three-point range and 66.5 percent from the free throw line.
The team is coached by Rick Neumann, who is in his fifth year in charge of the program.
He has a record of 66-63 in his career.

Prior Meetings

St. Cloud State is 9-3 all-time against Minot State since the series started in 1979.
The program split the two games with the Beavers last season.
The program fell to Minot State by a 77-63 score at home last December (12/30/16).
Betsy MacDonald led the team with her 15 points.
Chelsea Nooker totaled 12 points and nine steals.
Her nine steals were one off the school record that was last accomplished by Nicole Anderson during the 2011 season.
Andrea Thomas had seven points and six steals against the Beavers.
Mallie Doucette totaled nine points.
Brianna Johnson recorded nine points and nine rebounds.
The program defeated Minot State by a 76-69 score on the road last February (2/11/17).
MacDonald scored 32 points in the victory.
It was the second 30 or more point performance of her career and the 22nd in school history.
Nooker totaled 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Amanda Christianson recorded 11 points and six rebounds.
Thomas picked up five points, four rebounds and eight assists.
St. Cloud State is 8-7 all-time against the University of Mary since the first game of the series in 2009.
The program's split the two games last season with each team able to steal a road contest.
SCSU fell to the Marauders by an 82-81 score in the first matchup at Halenbeck Hall (12/31/16).
Doucette led the squad with 20 points.
She also had six rebounds and two steals.
MacDonald recorded 18 points.
Thomas totaled 15 points, six rebounds and three steals.
Nooker was steady with 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and three blocks.
Brianna Johnson picked up seven points and six rebounds.
The team defeated the University of Mary by an 82-74 score last February (2/10/17).
MacDonald scored 21 points with four rebounds and two steals.
Nooker had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Christianson scored 14 points.
Thomas had 13 points, three rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Brianna Johnson put up seven points, nine rebounds and three steals in 14 minutes off the bench.

Notables

St. Cloud State won their only game of the week on Dec. 16 over Minnesota Duluth by a score of 58-52 at Halenbeck Hall.
The win was the 200th in the career of head coach Lori Fish.
The win was the 138thh in her 10 years at St. Cloud and she is only the third women's basketball coach in school history with 130 or more victories.
Sophomore Madelin Dammann scored a career-high 20 points in the victory.
Dammann shot 7-for-10 from the field and 3-for-4 from both three-point range and the free throw line.
It was her first time this season leading the team in scoring in a contest.
Redshirt sophomore Brianna Johnson picked up her first double-double of the season and the second of her career with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Johnson has led or tied for the team lead in rebounding in each of the last five games.
In NSIC games this season, Johnson is averaging 8.2 points and 9.2 rebounds a contest.
Senior Amanda Christianson tallied eight points and seven rebounds
Freshman Tori Wortz recorded nine points and three assists.
The program shot 53.7 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 66.7 percent from the line.
The Huskies improved to 45-31 all-time against Minnesota Duluth
SCSU is 4-1 in home games this season with an average of 70.6 points per game, while surrendering 51.6 points a contest.
The program enters the week on a two-game winning streak.
In the last two games, Dammann is averaging 16 points per game, while shooting 73.3 percent from the field (11-for-15), 66.7 percent from three-point range (4-for-6) and 75 percent from the free throw line (6-for-8).
Dammann is also pulling down 5.5 rebounds per contest.
In the current two game winning streak, Christianson sports an average of 12 points per game and is shooting 55.6 percent from the field (10-for-18) plus an average of 6.0 rebounds per game and three assists per contest.
Wortz is also averaging in double figures over the last two games at 12.0 points per game, while shooting 58.8 percent from the field (10-for-17).
On the season, she has reached double figures in six of the nine games and the program is 5-1 when she gets 10 or more points in a game.
The program is also 6-1 this season when scoring 56 or more points.
Senior Andrea Thomas is averaging 9.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per contest in the last pair of games.
Thomas ranks fourth overall in the NSIC in steals per game (2.00).
She is also the team leader in numerous categories as she leads the team in minutes played (257), scoring (116 points / 12.9 points per game), assists (21) and steals (18).
Thomas is also third on the team in rebounding at 4.8 rebounds per game.
Wortz is second on the team in scoring (10.8) and steals (12), while shooting 44 percent from the field (36-for-81) and 39.3 percent from three-point range (11-for-28).
Wortz is also third on the team in minutes played (211 or 23.4 per contest).
Christianson is third on the team in scoring at 9.4 points per game.
She is also leading the team in three-pointers made (12) plus is second in three-point percentage (41.4) and rebounds per game (5.6).
Brianna Johnson is the team leader at 6.6 rebounds per game, while shooting free throws at a team-leading clip of 77.3 percent.
Dammann is averaging 7.6 points per game and shooting 52.2 percent from the field (24-for-46) and 43.5 percent from three-point range (10-for-23).
Redshirt junior Madelin Doucette is putting up 7.2 point per game.
The team's rotation has also been deep with nine players having seen action in all nine games (Thomas, Wortz, Christianson, Doucette, Dammann, Kilboten, B. Johnson, J. Johnson and Mackenzie Uter).
The Huskies also rank in the top half of the conference in assist/turnover ratio (0.88 – 8th), fewest turnovers (138 – 8th), field goal percentage (42.1 – 5th), field goal defense (36.3 – 5th), offensive rebounds per game (13 – 5th), rebounding margin (8.2 – 3rd), rebounds per game (39.56 – 7th), scoring defense (53.6 – 1st), scoring margin (11.9 – 5th), steals (75 – 5th), steals per game (8.3 – 5th), three-point field goal defense (23.4 – 1st), three-point field goals per game (6.2 – 8th), three-point field goal percentage (35.0 – 3rd), turnover margin (1.44 – 6th), turnovers forced per game (16.78 – 4th) and win loss percentage (66.7 – 8th)
The program also enters the week as the fourth-best three-point defensive team in the country and 11th nationally in scoring defense.

Up Next

The Huskies return home to host Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston next weekend.
The program takes on the Beavers on Friday, Jan. 5 at 6 p.m.
SCSU is 40-16 all-time against Bemidji State including a 52-51 loss earlier this season (12/2/17).
Andrea Thomas scored a career-high 24 points in the loss to the Beavers.
Thomas also had six rebounds in the contest.
Tori Wortz totaled 14 points in the first meeting with BSU.
Amanda Christianson and Brianna Johnson both had 10 rebounds for SCSU.
The program had a 16-point lead against Bemidji State, but were held without a field goal for the final 4:09 of the contest.
The program hosts UMC on Saturday, Jan. 6, at 4 p.m.
St. Cloud improved its all-time record to 8-27 against Minnesota Crookston earlier this season with a 58-52 victory (12/1/17).
The team had three players reach double figures and were led by 14 points from Thomas.
Christianson tallied 12 points and six rebounds.
Wortz had 10 points and four rebounds.
Johnson was steady with eight points and nine rebounds.
