Men’s Basketball Hosts Wayne State In First Round of NSIC/Sanford Men’s Basketball Tournament on Wednesday

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team (18-13, 14-8 NSIC), who earned the third seed in the NSIC North Division, open the 2017 NSIC/Sanford Men's Basketball Tournament by hosting Wayne State College (10-18, 8-14 NSIC), who earned the sixth seed in the NSIC South Division, on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall.

- Wayne State closed out the regular season with wins in three of the team's last five games including a split pair of games at home over the weekend against Upper Iowa (L, 67-65) and Winona State (W, 74-59).
- The program has three players averaging in double figures led by Kendall Jacks at 15.6 points per game.
- Jacks in also shooting 55.9 percent from the field, 46.5 percent from three-point range and 79.2 percent from the free throw line.
- Matt Thomas sports an average of 10 points per game while shooting 82 percent from the free throw line.

- Vance Janssen leads the team in both assists (75) and steals (47).

- The program has now won 14 straight games against the Wildcats.
- The last time that WSC defeated SCSU was by an 80-78 score during the 2005-06 season.
- St. Cloud State defeated Wayne State by an 84-80 score at Halenbeck Hall earlier this season (1/27).
- Gage Davis had 28 points, 13 rebounds, five blocks and six assists in that contest.

- SCSU is hosting the first round of the NSIC Men's Basketball Tournament for the first time since defeating Southwest Minnesota State by a 93-83 score during the 2014-15 season.
- The program has reached NSIC Men's Basketball Championship Game three times since 2008 and has an all-time record of 12-6 in NSIC post-season play.
- The Huskies lost in the opening round of the NSIC/Sanford Health Men's Basketball Tournament last season to Upper Iowa by an 87-80 score in Fayette, Iowa

- The team had gone 97 straight contests without playing an overtime game and then played in one in consecutive games (Minot State – 1/11 & MSU Moorhead – 1/17).
- The team's 97 points scored was the 11th time the program has scored 90 or more points this season, but the first time the team came up on the losing end (10-1 overall record).
- Davis led the charge for SCSU with 35 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
- The 35 points scored against MSU Moorhead was the third straight contest that Davis had totaled 30 or more points in a contest.
- Jon Averkamp put up his third straight 20 plus point performance with 27 points and six rebounds against MSUM.
- In his last five games, Averkamp is averaging 20.4 points per game while shooting 57.7 percent from the field (41-for-71) and 82.6 percent from the free throw line (19-for-23).
- Scottie Stone picked up 15 points on five made threes.
- Stone's five made triples broke the school record of 100 in a single season set by Joel McDonald (1994-95).
- Stone has now totaled 104 made threes this season.
- Mark Hall had 11 points and five assists against MSUM.
- The Huskies shot 50 percent from the field, but MSU Moorhead was even better at 52.2 percent.

- St. Cloud State lost the school's second game of the weekend by a 74-65 to Northern State (2/18).
- The Huskies were down by 21 at the half and closed to four points in the second half, but could never fully catch up in the loss.
- Andy Foley led the team with 18 points and 11 rebounds for his first career double-double.
- In the two games last week, Foley averaged 12.0 points and eight rebounds per game while shooting 62.5 percent from the field and 66 percent from three-point range.
- Davis had a steady game with 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
- He also moved to second on the school's single season scoring list with 719 points and is only 25 points from catching Kevin Catron as the all-time single season leader.

- He has now scored in double figures in 29 of the 31 games this season and 45 of the last 47 games.
