St. Paul, Minn.- The St. Cloud State women's basketball team fell 88-75 to the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears on Feb 3.
The Huskies (9-12, 7-10 NSIC) struggled to get their game juices flowing early on, getting down to the Golden Bears (16-7, 12-5 NSIC) 0-8 early in the first quarter. Andrea Thomas would eventually get the Huskies on the board with a jumper from inside the arch, but it would not be enough as CSP would maintain their eight point lead at the end of the first quarter 24-16.
The second quarter would see the Golden Bears retake the momentum as they overwhelmed the Huskies in the second quarter to extend their lead to 46-32 heading into halftime.
The halftime break added some wind to the Huskies sails as they kept pace with the Golden Bears only being outscored 24-22 in the third frame to set the score at 70-54 heading into the final frame.
The final quarter would prove to be the Huskies' strongest as they outscored the Golden Bears 21-18, but they would be unable to recuperate the points given up early, and would fall 88-75.
The Huskies were led in the loss by Betsy MacDonald who put up 19 points on the night, while Chelsea Nooker added 17 of her own points, and Amanda Christianson put up 12 points. Christianson led the Huskies in rebounds with eight on the night.
The Golden Bears were led by Anna Schmitt with 24 points.
The Huskies will return to action on Feb. 4 as they travel south to take on Minnesota State in Mankato at 4 p.m. from the Taylor Center. The Huskies will be on the road until the final weekend of conference action Feb 17-18 when they host Northern State and Minnesota State, Moorhead.
