Huskies Fall In NSIC Cross Conference Match with Minnesota State
2/4/2017 6:10:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Mankato, Minn.- The St. Cloud State women's basketball team fell 83-55 to Minnesota State University on Feb. 4.
The Huskies (9-13, 7-11 NSIC) and the Mavericks (13-9, 9-9 NSIC) started the game on level playing field, with neither team gaining a significant lead on the other, until the Mavericks broke free at 7-4, when they started to stretch their lead against the Huskies. St. Cloud would struggle to add more points in the remainder of the opening quarter and would find themselves down 23-12 after the first ten minutes.
The second quarter did nothing to help the Huskies struggle as they would only put eight points on the board compared to the Mavericks' 18 points, and they would find themselves facing an even larger deficit going into the halftime at 41-20.
The second half of the game did not improve either for the Huskies as all the momentum was firmly in Minnesota State's corner as the Huskies would get outscored 26-19 in the third quarter, while managing to even the scoring at 16 points each team in the final quarter.
The Huskies were led by Amanda Christianson with 15 points, while Chelsea Nooker added 10 points for the visitors. Christianson, Nooker, and Betsy MacDonald all grabbed five rebounds for the Huskies, while Andrea Thomas joined Christianson in dishing out two assists.
The Huskies return to action next weekend when they travel to the University of Mary and Minot State University on Feb. 10-11 for a pair of NSIC matches. The Huskies will then return home for the final weekend of the regular season to host Northern State and Minnesota State Moorhead Feb. 17-18.
