Men’s Basketball Hosts No. 8 Northern State and MSU Moorhead This Weekend

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team (11-6, 7-4 NSIC) returns home to Halenbeck Hall to host a pair of NSIC opponents this weekend. The program takes on No. 8 Northern State (19-1, 12-0 NSIC) on Friday, Jan. 19, at 8 p.m. and MSU Moorhead (5-13, 3-9 NSIC) on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m.
The weekend promotion from the NSIC is "It's a Slam Dunk, Don't Drive Drunk" in which SCSU athletes that are part of the NSIC's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will be collecting signatures throughout the weekend from fans pledging not to drive drunk. Pledge stickers, magnets and key chains will be handed out to the fans that pledge to join in the initiative.

Scouting No. 8 Northern State
- Northern State stayed red-hot with three wins last week including a pair of conference victories over the weekend against Wayne State (71-69) on Jan. 12 and Augustana (89-78) on Jan. 13.
- The program also defeated Presentation College by a 111-73 score on Monday, Jan. 15.
- The Wolves have won 18 consecutive games entering this weekend.
- The program has scored 80 or more points in nine of those 18 victories.
- The team's lone loss on the season came against defending Division II National Champion Northwest Missouri State by a 71-60 score on Nov. 12.
- The team has yet to lose either a home or away game with the Northwest Missouri State loss coming in a neutral site venue.
- Northern State has five players averaging in double figures led by Ian Smith's 13.3 points per game.
- Smith is shooting 47 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from three-point range and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.
- He also leads the team in assists (90) and steals (26) plus is second in rebounding (97).
- DJ Pollard puts up 13 points per game and shoots 49.4 percent from the field, 45.2 percent from three-point range and 79.5 percent from the free throw line.
- Pollard is second in the team in assists (46).
- Darin Peterka sports an average of 11.9 points per game and is shooting 49 percent from the field, 42 percent from three-point range and 84.8 percent from the free throw line.
- Peterka also leads the team with his 34 made threes.
- Logan Doyle is averaging 11.2 points per game and leads the team with his 131 rebounds.

Scouting MSU Moorhead
- MSU Moorhead split the team's two games over the weekend to end what had been an eight-game losing streak.
- The program lost to Augustana (95-85) on Jan. 12 and defeated Wayne State (90-66) on Jan. 13.
- The Dragons have been led by Tanner Kretchman, who is averaging 16 points per game, while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 84.9 percent from the free throw line.
- Kretchman also leads the team in assists (59) and in made threes (50).
- Johnny Beeninga sports an average of 14.2 points per game and shoots 45.2 percent from the field, 23.6 percent from three-point range and 84.1 percent from the free throw line.
- Travaun Coad gets 12.4 points per game and leads the team with his 13 steals and 101 total rebounds.
- Addison Parks puts up 11.4 points and has a team-leading 12 blocks.
- He also leads the team with his 59.9 shooting percentage.
- Evan Hines gets 11.1 points per game and is second on the team with 82 rebounds.
- The Dragons average 75.7 points per game, while shooting 47.2 percent from the field, 33.5 percent from three-point range and 74.9 percent from the foul line.

- The Huskies lost both road games last weekend to Upper Iowa (84-74) on Jan. 12 and Winona State (102-100) in overtime on Jan. 13 to end what had been a three-game winning streak.
- The Huskies scored the first six points of the game against Upper Iowa and then saw the Peacocks outscore the team 84-68 the rest of the way.
- The program is 16-7 all-time against Upper Iowa, but have lost two in a row and four of the last five contests against them.
