Brindley Theisen’s Career High Leads Men’s Basketball to 80-63 Win Over Augustana

Sioux Falls, S.D. – Junior Brindley Theisen scored a career-high 29 points to help lead the St. Cloud State men's basketball team (15-6, 11-4 NSIC) to an 80-63 victory over Augustana (13-9, 8-8 NSIC) on Saturday, Jan. 27, at Sioux Falls Arena.
Theisen's 29 points came on 8-for-11 shooting from three-point range. The eight made threes were one off the school record of nine set by Joel McDonald during the 1995 season against Nebraska Omaha. Fellow junior Gage Davis recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. He also had four assists, a block and a steal. Senior Jon Averkamp picked up 17 points, five rebounds, a block and a steal. Junior Sean Smith totaled four points, six rebounds, two blocks and a steal. Sophomore Trevon Marshall picked a career-high eight assists to go along with four points and four assists.
Augustana put one player in double figures as John Warren scored 16 points. Jameson Bryan had nine points. Jordan Spencer had eight points and four assists.
The Huskies shot 47.5 percent from the field (29-for-61), 46.2 percent from three-point range (12-for-26) and 76.9 percent from the free throw line (10-for-13). The team also had 38 rebounds, 20 assists, six blocks and six steals. Augustana shot 41.9 percent from the field (26-for-62), 29.2 percent from three-point range (7-for-24) and 66.7 percent from the line (4-for-6).
The Huskies led 36-28 at the half and won the second half 44-35. The team led throughout with no lead changes or tied scores. SCSU's largest lead was 29 on a Davis free throw to put the Huskies up, 76-47, with 6:23 remaining in the game. The opened the game on an 11-0 to take control and never let go.
St. Cloud State men's basketball team now returns home to host Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m. and Minnesota State on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m.
