Men’s Basketball Returns Home To Host Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State men's basketball team (15-6, 11-4 NSIC) is back in action this weekend with a pair of crucial NSIC home games at Halenbeck Hall. The program takes on Concordia-St. Paul (4-18, 3-13 NSIC) on Friday, Feb. 2, at 8 p.m. and Minnesota State (18-4, 14-2 NSIC) on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m.

There will be a pair of promotions this weekend. Friday night will be Military Appreciation Day where all military members and one guest can get access to the game for free with a military ID. It will also be $1 Hot Dog Night at the concession stand for both games this weekend.

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul

Concordia-St. Paul split the team's two weekend games and ended a five-game skid with a 74-68 victory over Minnesota Crookston on Saturday, Jan. 27.
The program started the week with a 95-66 loss to Minnesota State (Jan. 23) and fell to Bemidji State (Jan. 26) by an 82-76 score.
The program is 1-10 in road and neutral site games this season.
Bryndan Matthews is averaging 17.2 points per game to lead the squad.
Matthews also leads the team with his average of 7.3 rebounds per game and 22 steals.
He is shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 70.5 percent from the foul line.
Avan Ward is also averaging in double figures at 14.6 points per game.
He also leads the team in three-pointers made (50) and is shooting 36.8 percent from beyond the arc.
Ward also has a team-high 61 assists.
Ted Brown sports an average of 8.6 points per game and is shooting 63.4 percent from the field.
Brown is also second on the team with 113 rebounds.
Evan Wesenberg leads the team with his 18 blocks and is averaging 6.2 points per game.
The team is putting up 68.5 points per game, while shooting 45.2 percent from the field, 32.8 percent from three-point range and 69.6 percent from the free throw line.
Concordia-St. Paul is coached by Joey James, who is in his fourth season with the program and fifth season as a collegiate head coach.

Scouting Minnesota State

Minnesota State has won six games in a row and eight of the last nine games.
The program has gone 15-2 since losing in late November to St. Cloud State
The team earned three victories last week with a 95-66 win over Concordia-St. Paul (Jan. 23), an 80-78 win over Minnesota Crookston (Jan. 26) and an 87-70 victory over Bemidji State (Jan. 27).
The team has five players averaging in double figures and are led by Kevin Krieger's 16.2 points per game.
Krieger is also shooting 50.2 percent from the field, 54.7 percent from three-point range and 86.3 percent from the foul line.
He is second on the team in rebounding with 130 boards.
Charlie Brown is second on the team in scoring (15.2) and leads the team in assists (88).
Brown is shooting 48.2 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from three-point range and 74.7 percent from the free throw line.
Chris Kendrix is averaging 12.7 points per game and is shooting 53.3 percent from the field, 49.5 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the foul line.
He leads the team in rebounding with 147 and is second on the team in steals (19) and blocks (11).
Cameron Kirksey sports an average of 12.1 points per game and shoots 53.4 percent from the field.
He leads the team in blocks (20) and is tied for second on the team in steals (19).
Carlos Anderson is picking up 11.1 points per game.
Cole Harper leads the team with his 22 steals.
The Mavericks are averaging 84 points per game, while shooting 48.2 percent from the field and 76 percent from the free throw line.
The program has scored 80 or more points in 18 games this season with a high of 99 against the Sioux Falls.
The team is coached by Matt Margenthaler, who is in his 17th season with the program.

Kurt Hall totaled 16 points and 11 rebounds in the home loss.
It was one of two double-doubles he has last season.
The game was one of only two last season in which Stone was held below double figures as he finished with six points.
In the road game against the Mavericks last season (2/4/17), Davis had 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Averkamp put up 16 points and five rebounds.

Davis, a junior from Bolingbrook, Ill., was named the NSIC North Player of the Week on Monday, Jan. 29, after averaging 19 points 11 rebounds and five assists per game in leading the team to wins over Wayne State and Augustana.
On the week, he shot 51.7 percent from the field (15-for-29), 36.4 percent from three-point range (4-for-11) and was perfect shooting from the free throw line (4-for-4).
He had double-double in both games and four on the season.
It was the fifth time the last two seasons and the sixth time in his career that Davis has been named the NSIC North Division Player of the Week.

He also leads the team in three-point percentage (59.1).
Smith is second in the league in rebounds (8.6), blocked shots (2.24) and defensive rebounds per game (6.19)
He is fifth in offensive rebounds (2.43).
He has reached double figures in rebounds in seven games including five double-doubles.
Smith is also averaging in double figures on the season at 11.4 points per game.
His 47 blocks represent 55 percent of the team's blocked shots this season (47-of-86).
Theisen is third on the team with his average of 12.1 points per game.
He has scored in double figures in 13 of the 21 games
Theisen is fourth in the league in three-point field goals per game (2.43), three-point attempts (134) and total three-pointers made (51).
