Women’s Basketball Runs To 70-54 Victory Over Minnesota Crookston

St. Cloud, Minn. – Sophomore Madelin Dammann scored 21 points to help lead the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (9-4, 6-3 NSIC) to a 70-54 victory over Minnesota Crookston (2-11, 2-7 NSIC) on Saturday, Jan. 6, at Halenbeck Hall. The team has won their last three contests.
Dammann was able to score her 21 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field including 5-for-8 from three-point range. She also had five rebounds and a pair of assists. Redshirt junior Mallie Doucette shot an efficient 6-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 from three-point range in totaling 19 points. She also had five rebounds in the victory. Senior Andrea Thomas picked up nine points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals. Redshirt sophomore Brianna Johnson shot 4-for-5 from the field in scoring eight points with four rebounds, a block and two steals. Freshman Tori Wortz recorded nine points.
Minnesota Crookston were led by 20 points from Isieoma Odor. Odor also had five rebounds, two assists and two steals. Caitlin Michaelis scored 13 points. Micaela Noga recorded 10 points.
The Huskies shot 51.9 percent from the field (27-for-52), 48 percent from three-point range (12-for-25) and 100 percent from the line (4-for-4). SCSU had 33 rebounds, 20 assists, nine steals and two blocks in the game. Minnesota Crookston shot 41.3 percent from the field (19-for-46), 27.8 percent from three-point range (5-for-18) and 91.7 percent from the foul line (11-for-12).
SCSU led 40-26 at the half. The team limited the Golden Eagles to seven points in the third quarter and won 30-28 in the second half to earn the victory. The game featured one tied score and lead change in the first minutes of the game. The Huskies largest lead was 22 at the 6:21 mark of the fourth quarter on a made three from Doucette, 63-41.
The St. Cloud State women's basketball team gets back on the road next weekend and travels to play against Upper Iowa on Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. and Winona State on Jan. 13 at 4 p.m.
Notes:
- This was the second time this season and in the last five games that Madelin Dammann has led the team in scoring.
- Her 21 points were a career-high better than the 20 points she had against Minnesota Duluth earlier this season (12/16/17).
- The 19 points from Mallie Doucette were a season high and her fourth time in double figures this season.
- The nine points from Andrea Thomas was only the fourth time she has been held under double figures in 13 games.
