Northeastern hands #2/3 St. Cloud State first loss of 2018-19 season

The #2/3 ranked St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (5-1-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) suffered its first loss of the 2018-19 campaign with a close 3-2 setback at #18 Northeastern University (4-2-0, 0-0-0 HE) on Saturday, Oct. 27 in Boston, Mass. 
The loss snapped a five-game win streak for the Huskies as they head into next weekend's NCHCÂ opener at Colorado College on Nov. 2-3 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
SCSU opened the game at Northeastern with a first period goal by Blake Lizotte at 5:12 with assists from Patrick Newell and Jimmy Schuldt. This was Lizotte's second goal of the year and it was Newell's fifth assist of the year and helped him maintain his six-game point scoring streak. Newell now has four goals and five assists for the Huskies in 2018-19.Â
The offense ended for the Huskies as Northeastern scored the game's final three goals. Northeastern's Eric Williams started his team's scoring at 18:22 of the second with a goal. In the final period, Biagio Lerario scored at 1:38 of the third with assists from Austin Plevy and Lincoln Griffin to the tie the contest at 2-2. Grant Jozefek then posted the game winning goal at 13:35 of the third to clinch the 3-2 victory.
In the game, Northeastern outshot the Huskies 32-27 as Jeff Smith was the goalie of record for SCSU with 29 saves in the game. On the power play, SCSU was 1-1 and the Huskies were 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. SCSU's PK coThe assist for Schuldt was his third of the season and it was his 87th career point with the Huskies.
In the second period, SCSU pushed its lead to 2-0 with junior defenseman Jack Ahcan's first goal of the season at 15:11. He was assisted on the play by rookie Nick Perbix and sophomore forward Easton Brodzinski. Ahcan also owns a six-game point scoring streak and he currently leads SCSU with 10 points (1g/9a) in six games played this winter.
Northeastern outshot the Huskies 32-27 in the contest as Jeff Smith was the goalie of record for the Huskies with 29 saves to his credit. On the power play, SCSU was 0-of-1 and the Huskies were a perfect 3-of-3 on the penalty kill. Of note, SCSU has only allowed one power play goal in six games played this season and the Huskies own an impressive 96.2 percent on the penalty kill this season (25-of-26).
