Women's Basketball Falls to Northern State, 71-55, In Regular Season Finale

Aberdeen, S.D. – Sophomore Madelin Dammann scored 16 points to help lead the St. Cloud State women's basketball team (17-9, 14-8 NSIC) in a 71-55 defeat at the hands of Northern State (24-4, 19-3 NSIC) on Saturday, Feb. 17, at Wachs Area in Aberdeen, S.D. in the regular season finale for both teams.
Dammann was able to score her 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting from the field including 2-for-4 from three-point range. She also had two rebounds two assists and a pair of steals. Senior Andrea Thomas picked up 14 points, three rebounds and a steal. Freshman Tori Wortz recorded 12 points, two assists and two steals. Â
Northern State was led by Miranda Ristau, who scored 35 points and pulled down 12 rebounds with two steals. Jessi Marti secured 11 points. Â Â
The Huskies shot 38.5 percent from the field (20-for-52), 37.5 percent from three-point range (9-for-24) and 100 percent from the line (6-for-6). Â Â SCSU had 21 rebounds, nine assists, eight steals and a block in the game. Northern State shot 52.0 percent from the field (26-for-50), 27.3 percent from three-point range (3-for-11) and 80 percent from the foul line (16-for-20).
SCSU trailed 38-31 at the half and were outscored 33-24 over the last 20 minutes of the game. The game featured three tied scores and two lead changes. The Huskies largest lead was three points at the 6:54 mark of the first quarter on a three from Dammann, 9-6. NSU's largest advantage was 18 points with 1:43 remaining in the game on the second of two made free throws from Brianna Kusler. Â
