St. Cloud State's Bob Motzko and Will Borgen earn 2017-18 NCHC awards

St. Cloud State University men's hockey coach Bob Motzko was named the NCHC's Herb Brooks Coach of the Year and junior defenseman was named the NCHC's Defensive Defenseman of the year.
The two were recognized among the league's best at the NCHC's awards banquet, which was held on Thursday, March 15 at the Minnesota Science Museum in St. Paul, Minn.
This marks the second time that Motzko has been named the NCHC Coach of the Year. He also won the award during the 2013-14 season and was named the WCHA Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2007. The Huskies are currently the nation's #1 ranked men's college hockey team this season and own a 24-7-6 overall record. SCSU won the 2017-18 NCHC regular season crown with a 16-4-4 record under Motzko's leadership.
An All-NCHC Honorable Mention selection on defense, Borgen has scored two goals and 12 assists for the Huskies in 2017-18. He has 53 blocked shots this season and has helped the Huskies outscore their opponents 139-91 this season on defense. Borgen played for Team USA at the 2018 Winter Olympic games.
Hobey Baker top 10 finalist Jimmy Schuldt was named to the All-NCHC First Team this season and was honored at the banquet along with All-NCHC second team pick Mikey Eyssimont and All-NCHC Honorable Mention award winners Borgen, Robby Jackson and David Hrenak.
Hrenak, Easton Brodzinski and Blake Lizotte were saluted at the banquet as members of the NCHC All-Rookie Team. Â
The Huskies will continue their season on Friday, March 16 with a 4:08 p.m. game against North Dakota in the semifinals of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff at the Xcel Energy Center. Fans can purchase tickets at the gate on game day or through the NCHC website at www.NCHCHockey.com
