SCSU women's swim and dive earns victory at DI rival SDSU

The St. Cloud State University women's swim and dive team chalked up a 162-138 victory in dual meet action at NCAA Division I rival South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D. on Jan. 19. The SCSU men's swim and dive team completed its trip to SDSU with a 175-125 loss to the Jackrabbits on Jan. 19.
The SCSU women's team gained a first place finish in the 200 medley relay and also took the top three spots in the 100 backstroke led by first place finisher Annie Hart with a time of 59.24. In the 50 freestyle, Jennifer Thompson placed first with a time of 24.25, and she also won the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.40, while teammate Chelsea Gehrke was second at 53.88 and Alexis Burroughs was third at 54.78.
In the 200 backstroke, Jessica Kramer placed first at 2:09.21 and Hart was second at 2:09.69. In the 200 breaststroke, Brooke Calvin was first at 2:30.56, and the SCSU 400 freestyle relay also gained first place honors at the meet. In the 1M diving, Rebekah Stone was first at 233.39 , Alyssa Doherty was second at 232.79 and Britin Thomsen was third at 232.42. In the 3M event, Doherty placed second at 249.01.
On the men's side, SCSU's Jose Alamo won the 1000 freestyle at 10:12.11, and Anthony Schwartz won the 100 backstroke at 51.95. In the 1M diving event, Scott Stellick placed third at 256.20, and Brady Wolkow won the 100 free at 48.32. Schwartz also placed first in the 200 backstroke at 1:53.97.
In the men's 3M diving, Hanos Mahari placed third at 267.15, while Schwartz took another first place in the 200 IM at 1:59.91.
Next up on the schedule for the Huskies will be a trip for the women's team to the NSIC Championships in Sioux Falls on Feb. 13-16. The men's team will be participating in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships in Cleveland, Ohio o Feb. 20-23. Both teams will be aiming to hit qualifying marks for the upcoming NCAA DII championships that will be held in Indianapolis on March 13-17.
