ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University golf and volleyball teams have been off to a hot start this 2019 season. Thanks to their teams' success in the month of September, first year golfer Carter Doose (St. Peter, Minn. / St. Peter) and senior libero Clara Krenz (Oakdale, Minn. / North St. Paul) have been named the Wolters Kluwer September Athletes of the Month.
A resident of St. Peter, Minn. and graduate of St. Peter High School, Doose made a strong college debut by leading the Huskies on the golf course in September. He opened the month with a first place finish at the BSU Invitational on Sept. 9-10 at the Town and Country Club in Bemidji, Minn. His two-day score to earn medalist honors was 140 (70-70) at four under par. For his efforts, Doose was named the NSIC Men's Golfer of the Week after the BSU meet. He capped the month with a sixth place finish at the prestigious Saint John's Fall Invitational on Sept. 21-22. In that event, Doose posted a score of 146 (71-75) to lead SCSU.
Krenz helped the Huskies volleyball team to their best start in program history, as St. Cloud State went 11-1 during the month of September with a 3-1 mark in NSIC play. As the team's libero, Krenz compiled an impressive 265 digs, averaging 6.16 digs per set, with eight aces and just two receiving errors in September. More impressively, Krenz tallied 20+ digs in eight of St. Cloud State's 12 matches during the month, including a season-high 29 in a five-set loss to #7 Concordia-St. Paul on September 28.
Additionally, Krenz earned several honors from the NSIC during the month of September, as she was named the Defensive Player of the Week on September 7 and currently ranks second and third in the conference in digs and digs/set. More impressive may be Krenz' national rankings. Thanks to her outstanding start to the season, Krenz ranks eighth in the nation in digs/set (6.16) and is in the top-30 in total digs after 12 matches. She currently ranks third all-time in program history in career digs at 1826 and is under 100 digs away from breaking Brianne Stamer's record at 1929.
