Volleyball receives historically high ranking in AVCA poll

LEXINGTON, KY. – The St. Cloud State University volleyball team is no stranger to making history this 2019 season, especially when it comes to national rankings. This week, is no different. After four consecutive weeks in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) top-25 poll, the Huskies finally cracked the top-10, as they were ranked #8 in the latest poll, released Monday afternoon.
The ranking is historic on several levels for St. Cloud State, as #8 is the highest the program has been ranked in the top-10 since the 1996 season. That year, the Huskies were ranked #3 in the nation, the highest ranking the team has ever received.
St. Cloud State's ascension up the national rankings continued after another strong weekend of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, where the team swept MSU-Moorhead before falling in five to then #8 Northern State. More impressively, the Huskies are one of four volleyball teams ranked in the top-10 in the NSIC, as they join Concordia-St. Paul (#5), Northern State (#6) and Minnesota-Duluth (#7) in the upper echelon.
St. Cloud State will return to action on Tuesday, as the teams travels to Crookston, Minnesota to face the University of Minnesota-Crookston at 6 p.m.
