St. Cloud State soccer returns home for key NSIC matches at Husky Stadium

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (4-3-3, 3-2-2 NSIC) will return to Husky Stadium for a pair of key Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games on Friday, Oct. 18 and Sunday, Oct. 20.
The Huskies will open the weekend with a 4:00 p.m. home game against Upper Iowa University (2-6-3, 2-4-2 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 18. SCSU will then complete the weekend on Sunday, Oct. 20 with a 1:00 p.m. match on the pitch at Husky Stadium against Winona State University (4-7, 3-5 NSIC).

SCSU SOCCER HEADLINES:
- The Huskies' match scheduled for Oct. 11 at Minnesota State, Moorhead was postponned due to snow on the field in Moorhead, Minn. The game has been rescheduled for Nov. 6 at 2 p.m. and it will be played at MSUM's soccer field.
- The NSIC race is heating up with the Huskies tied for seventh place along with UMary at 11 points apiece. Southwest Minnesota State is in sixth place with 12 points and Wayne State is in fifth place with 16 points. Winona State enters the weekend in ninth place with nine league points and Upper Iowa is in 10th place with eight points.
- In 2018, SCSU scored a 1-1 tie at Upper Iowa and suffered a 1-0 oss at Winona State. The Huskies currently own a two-game unbeaten streak against the Peacocks dating back to a 2-1 OT loss at home against Upper Iowa on Oct. 2, 2016. The last time SCSU played Winona State at home, the Huskies charted a 1-0 win on Sept. 30, 2016.
- In the all-time series against Upper Iowa, SCSU owns a 3-4-5 record that dates back to the series opener in 2008. In play against Winona State, the Huskies are 4-20-2 dating back to the series opener in 196.
- Rookie forward Jenna Dominguez charted her first collegiate goal in the Huskies' 4-0 win at Northern State on Oct. 13. On the season, Dominguez has now scored one goal and one assist for the Huskies.
- SCSU sophomore Claire Shea added a goal in the win at NSU, which moves her team-leading season total to four goals and 10 points. Tatyana Gusakow also posted a goal in the victory over NSU, which was her third marker of the season for the Huskies. Brooke Bares charted her first points of the season with a goal in the game at NSU. In her career at SCSU, Bares now has four goals.
- The win at NSU was the Huskies' fourth shutout of the season, all of which have been credited to netkeeper Zoe Welsh. She had five saves to her credit in the game vs. NSU. This was Welsh's 10th career shutout as a Husky goalie and she ranks sixth in the team records for career shutouts after only two seasons of play.
- Welsh owns a 0.73 GAA this season and has allowed only eight goals in 10 games played this season. Of note, the fewest number of goals allowed by SCSU in a season is 17 in 2009. SCSU has outscored its opponents 12-8 in 2019.
- Nicole Friis chalked up two assists in the win at NSU. She had assists on the goals by Shea and Gusakow. On the season, Friis now has 2g/2a.
- On the horizon, SCSU will continue its season on Oct. 25 with a road match at Sioux Falls and on Oct. 27 with a road game at Southwest Minnesota State. The Huskies' final regular season home game of 2019 will take place on Nov. 3 against UMary.
