First Half Offense Sparks Huskies' 2-1 victory over Upper Iowa

A rock solid offensive attack in the first half helped lift the St. Cloud State University soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Upper Iowa University on Friday, Oct. 18 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Huskies outshot the Peacocks 7-2 in the first half and tallied to first half goals to capture the win. SCSU opened the contest with a goal by Monica Majeski at 19:51 of the contest, which was assisted by Nicole Friis and Jenna Dominguez. This was Majeski's first goal of the season, while it marked Friis' third assist and Dominguez' second assist of the season.
Dominguez then added the game winning tally at 25:19 with an unassisted breakaway that made the score 2-0. This was Dominguez' second career goal with the Huskies and her six point on the 2019 season.
The Peacocks' lone goal was posted at 51:29 on a penalty kick by Victoria Sanchez, which proved to be the only goal allowed by SCSU netkeeper Zoe Welsh in the match. In the contest, SCSU outshot UIU by a 19-6 margin and the Huskies forced UIU goalkeeper Natalie Rudrud to make six saves in the game. Majeski (3) and Friis (2) led the Huskies in shots during this NSIC showdown.
The victory improves SCSU's overall record to 5-3-3, 4-2-2 NSIC and it provided key NSIC points. SCSU moves up to sixth place in the league standings with 14 points.
SCSU will have an opportunity to add to its NSIC totals with another league match at scenic Husky Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 20 against Winona State. The match is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate and all SCSU students get into the game for FREE!
