BURNSVILLE, MINN. – To say St. Cloud State University volleyball student-athlete Clara Krenz (Oakdale, Minn. / North St. Paul) is good at the sport is a slight understatement. Thanks to another stellar weekend in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play, the senior libero was named the conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and fifth time in her career early Monday afternoon.
Krenz' week was nothing short of historic, as she not only tallied 55 digs in three matches over the weekend but also broke the program record for career digs. With her 13th dig in the Huskies win over Minnesota-Crookston, Krenz surpassed former standout Brianne Stamer with 1930 digs in her St. Cloud State career. She continued to add to her record, as she concluded the weekend with 1954 career digs to her name. Additionally, the senior averaged an impressive 6.11 digs/set average in three matches and added four aces.
The senior libero didn't just impress this past weekend, as she's been one of the most consistent defensive players in the NSIC all season long. Through the midway point, Krenz leads the conference in both total digs (235) and digs/set (5.73) versus NSIC opponents and also leads in total digs (410) and overall digs/set average (6.12). Entering the weekend, Krenz ranked eighth in the nation in digs/set, the highest ranking player from the NSIC.
