St. Cloud State soccer to hits the road for matches at USF and SMSU

The St. Cloud State University soccer team (6-3-3, 5-2-2 NSIC) will bring a three-game winning streak into this weekend's action in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play on Friday, Oct. 25 at the University of Sioux Falls and on Sunday, Oct. 27 at Southwest Minnesota State University.
The Huskies start their road trip with a 6 p.m. match at the University of Sioux Falls (2-10-1, 2-7-1 NSIC) on Friday, Oct. 25 at the USF Sports Complex pitch. St. Cloud State will then finish the weekend with a 1:00 p.m. NSIC match at Southwest Minnesota State University (6-6-0, 4-6-0 NSIC) in Marshall, Minn. on Sunday, Oct. 27.
Thanks to a weekend sweep with wins over Upper Iowa (2-1 on Oct. 18) and Winona State (3-2 on Oct. 20), the Huskies currently sit in a tie for fifth place in the current NSIC standings. SCSU, U-Mary and Wayne State all have 17 league points this season. The NSIC matches this weekend will be key for Huskies as the final league standings will determine the playoff field for the upcoming 2019 NSIC tournament. The top eight teams in the final regular season standings will receive a bid to the tournament, with the top four teams in the standing gaining home field advantage in the first round. Augustana (28), Concordia (26), Minnesota State (24) and Bemidji State (22) currently own the top four spots in the league standings ahead of SCSU, U-Mary and Wayne State. Southwest Minnesota State and Winona State currently sit in eighth place in the league standings with 12 league points apiece.
The first round of NSIC tournament play will take place on Nov. 13 at the four higher seed home sites and the final four teams will then advance to the championship rounds on Nov. 15-17.

SCSU SOCCER NEWS AND NOTES:
- Last weekend, SCSU posted a 2-1 victory over Upper Iowa on Oct. 18 at Husky Stadium. SCSU's first goal in the contest was posted by Monica Majeski at 19:51 with assists from Nicole Friis and Jenna Dominguez. The Huskies then went on to clinch the contest with an unassisted goal by Dominquez at 25:19. UIU's lone goal was posted on a penalty kick at 51:20. SCSU outshot UIU 19-6 in the contest. The Huskies wrapped the weekend with a 3-2 win over Winona State on Oct. 20. Down 1-0 in the scoring, SCSU tied the game at 17:23 with a penalty kick by Katelyn Dziubinski. At 28:16, Dominguez made it 2-1 Huskies with her third goal of the season and then Brooke Bares scored the GWG at 35:42 to make it 3-1. WSU added a second goal at 67:12 but the Huskies managed to hold on to gain the win. SCSU outshot the Warriors 16-6 in the game.
- SCSU has outshot its opponents 186-110 this season and the Huskies have outscored their opponents 17-11.
- Claire Shea still leads the SCSU scoring list with four goals and 10 points this year. Dominquez continues to impress during her rookie season and currently ranks second on the team with three goals and two assists for eight points. Friis leads SCSU in assists with three and also has two goals this year for a total of seven points. Of note, Shea paces the club with 47 shots this year.
- Zoe Welsh currently owns a 6-3-3 record in the nets for the Huskies, which includes four shutouts. She has a 0.85 GAA rate this fall along with 55 saves. As a Husky, Welsh already has 10 shutouts in two seasons at SCSU.
- Jenna Dominguez brings a three-game goal scoring and point scoring streak into the game at USF. In the last three games, Dominguez has scored three goals, one assist and seven points for the Huskies.
- Last year, SCSU scored a 2-0 win over USF and a 2-0 win over SMSU at Husky Stadium on Oct. 19 and Oct. 21 respectively.
- SCSU is 6-1-2 in games played against Sioux Falls since the series started in 2011. SCSU is 15-8-2 in games played against SMSU since the series began in 1996. The last time SCSU played at SMSU, the Huskies and Mustangs tied 1-1 on Oct. 15, 2016, and the last time SCSU played at USF, the Cougars won 1-0 on Oct. 16, 2016.
- SCSU will continue its travels on Nov. 1 with a game at Minot State before returning to Husky Stadium on Nov. 3 for a match against UMary. This will be the final regular season home game for the Huskies in 2019.
