The St. Cloud State University soccer team (8-4-3, 7-3-2 NSIC) charted an impressive 2-0 shutout victory at Minot State University (3-12, 3-9 NSIC) on Friday, Nov. 1 in Minot, N.D.
The Huskies dominated on the scoresheet as they outshot the Beavers 24-3 and also dominated on the scoreboard with two goals from Claire Shea to gain the win.
Shea scored her first goal of the game at 9:19 with an assist from Monica Majeski. The goal proved to be the game winner for the Huskies, which was Shea's second GWG of the season.
At 18:01, Shea iced the contest with her second tally of the game on an unassisted play that made the final 2-0. This was Shea's team leading sixth goal of the season and 17th point of 2019. In her career at SCSU, Shea now has eight goals and 19 points in two seasons in the Granite City.
Emma Van Donselaar (photo courtesy of Minot State)Zoe Welsh was perfect in the nets with her fifth shutout of the season. A sophomore, Welsh made one save in the game and now has 11 career shutouts, which ranks sixth in the team record.
The Huskies will return home on Sunday, Nov. 3 for a key NSIC match against U-Mary at 1 p.m. Tickets for the match are available at the Husky Stadium ticket office on the day of the match and all SCSU students get into this match for FREE.
Of note, both U-Mary and SCSU have 23 NSIC points this season and are currently tied for fifth place in the league standings. Bemidji State, which currently ranks in fourth place in the NSIC standings with 28 points lost a match against MSU, Moorhead on Nov. 1. The top four teams in the final NSIC regular season standings receive home field advantage in the upcoming NSIC playoffs. Minnesota State (32), Concordia-St. Paul (32) and Augustana (31) own the top three spots in the current NSIC standings.
SCSU has three games remaining on its NSIC schedule with a match against Mary on Nov. 3 followed by away games at MSU, Moorhead and Minnesota Duluth next week.
