St. Cloud State soccer scores 1-0 shutout win over U-Mary

In a key battle for important NSIC points, the St. Cloud State University soccer team (9-4-3, 8-3-2 NSIC) charted a big 1-0 victory over University of Mary (9-4-2, 7-4-2 NSIC) on Sunday, Nov. 3 at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn.
The win pushed SCSU's NSIC league point total to 26 and puts the Huskies in fifth place ahead of Southwest Minnesota State (24 points) and U-Mary (23 points). SCSU still have two more games left on its schedule with a midweek game at MSU, Moorhead and a game on Nov. 8 at Minnesota Duluth. Of note, Bemidji State currently sits in fourth place in the league standings with 31 points, while Minnesota State has 36, Concordia-St. Paul has 35 and Augustana has 34.
The top four teams in the final regular season league standings will receive home field advantage in the upcoming NSIC playoffs. SCSU still has two games left to play on their league schedule, while BSU, MSU, CSP and Augie each have one game left on their schedules. The SCSU game at MSU, Moorhead is a make-up game for an earlier date that was postponned due to snow in Moorhead.
Jenna Dominguez provided SCSU with the game winner at 62:04 with a solo assist from Nicole Friis. This was Dominguez' third game winner of the season and her fourth goal as a Husky. Friis now has four assist at SCSU in 2019.
SCSU outshot the Marauders 12-8 in a tight defensive battle at Husky Stadium. SCSU sophomore Zoe Welsh made five saves in the contest and charted her sixth shuout of the season, which places her fourth in the team records for shutouts in a season. In two seasons at SCSU, Welsh now has 12 career shutouts (fourth in the SCSU records).
Monica Majeski led the game with three shots to her credit, while teammates Brooke Bares and Claire Shea had two shots.each.
